WISCONSIN DELLS — The Fury silenced the Lightning Jan. 8 in a Badger Conference game, 10-1. With the win, Rock County (10-5-1, 5-0-1) moves into sole possession of first place in the league with 11 points — two ahead of the Cap City Cougars (5-4-3, 4-0-1).
The Fury scored four goals in the first, five in the second and another in the third. The only conceded goal by Brodhead junior Brooke Teubert came in the waning minutes of the third period.
Three Fury players scored two goals — Anika Einbeck (Monroe), Haley Knauf (Albany) and Mya Maslonka (Craig).
Olivia Combs (Parker) opened the scoring at the 6:53 mark with assists coming from Ella Silha (Milton) and Haley Knauf. Maslonka scored both of her goals over the following 2:06 of game clock with Einbeck assisting both scores and Sara Nerad (Craig) also credited with an assist. Haley Knauf scored with less than five minutes left in the first on passes from Presley Kovacevich (Milton) and Alyssa Knauf (Albany).
In the second, Samantha Wells (Turner) lit the lamp just 47 seconds after the puck dropped on a pass from Maslonka. Thirty-two seconds later, Haley Knauf made it 6-0 with an assist from her sister, Alyssa. Einbeck, who led the team with five points in the game, scored off a pass from Maslonka less than five minutes into the frame. Sara Loerke (Memorial) and Einbeck each scored again before the period ran out.
Silha scored a goal in the third off a pass from Cammi Ganshert (Monroe). Badger Lighting (1-9, 0-6) scored its only goal with under two minutes to play.
Teubert stopped 13 shots, while the Fury had 56 shots on goal offensively.
