JANESVILLE — In their second-to-last game of the regular season, the Rock County Fury girls hockey team took one on the chin, falling 3-1 to Wisconsin Valley Union Feb. 8.
WVU scored 2:28 into the game to grab an early 1-0 lead, and held a 2-0 advantage after the second period.
The Fury put pressure on the visiting team, with Mya Maslonka scoring off assists from Haley Knauf and Sara Nerad 7:44 into the third. But WVU found an empty net in the final minute to close out the game.
Olivia Cronin had 20 saves in goal, and the Fury outshot WVU 30-22.
Rock County’s final regular season game was scheduled for Feb. 11 at Sun Prairie, with the winner taking home the Badger Conference crown.
