Fury capitalizes on power play goals

BELOIT — The Rock County Fury girls hockey team took advantage of an extra skater to score both of its goals in a 2-1 win over the Cap City Cougars on Monday, Dec. 12.

Maizy Fonseca opened the game with an unassisted power play goal in the first period. In the third, Claudia Boehlke followed suit with Cougars’ Brynn Brinkmeier in the penalty box for tripping.

Cap City prevented the shutout with a goal from Lilly Wagner with three minutes left in the game. She was assisted by Brooke Ayres.

Izzy Hahn saw 21 shots on goal for Cap City, stopping all but two for a .905 save percentage. For the Fury, Jillian Traver recorded 30 saves with one goal for a .968 save percentage.


SAUK PRAIRIE 4, MONROE 2

SAUK PRAIRIE — The Cheesemakers dropped a road game to the Eagles on Tuesday, Dec. 13.

For the first time in two weeks, Monroe didn’t score in the first period. Neither did Sauk Prairie, as the first offensive action occurred in the second.

The Eagles got on the board with a goal from Colin Harrington. The Cheesemakers responded with a power-play goal from Wyatt Janecke. He was assisted by Gavin Roth and Patrick Alt. Sauk regained the lead with an unassisted, short-handed goal from Landon Froese. 

Cash Anderson tied the game at two with a goal in the third, but the Eagles scored two unanswered goals to close out the game.

Obert recorded 29 saves in net with four goals for a .878 save percentage.
