MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers earned a hard-fought 60-54 win over Delavan-Darien in Rock Valley action on Feb. 24 at Monroe. 

The Cheesemakers and the Comets battled to a 30-30 halftime tie. The Cheesemakers prevailed by going 19-25 at the free throw line while the Comets went just 2-4. Monroe out-scored Delavan-Darien 38-18 in the paint and out-rebounded the Comets 39-25. Monroe also got 13 points off turnovers. The Cheesemakers improved their record to 16-7 with the win. 

Sophomore Jordan Meyer paced the Cheesemakers with 19 points and 13 rebounds while sophomore Kam Gerber-Reamer and junior Marcus Ott added 11 points each. 

The Cheesemakers played another non-conference game on Thursday at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee to close the regular season, but results were unavailable by press time. 

Monroe opens the post-season March 4 as the No. 8 seed in the Division 2 playoffs. They’ll host No. 9 seed Jefferson in a regional quarterfinal.

Seneca 86, Pecatonica 40

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Seneca Royals played the Pecatonica Vikings on Feb. 24 and came away with an 86-40 non-conference win. The Royals grabbed a 44-28 halftime lead and limited the Vikings to just 12 points in the second half. 

Sophomore Griffin Noll was the leading scorer for the Vikings with 14 points. Senior Charles Anderson pumped in 10 points for Pecatonica, which fell to 12-11 with the loss. Seneca improves to 16-7 with the win. The Vikings were set to close their regular season with a game at home against Monticello on Feb. 27.
