MONROE — Sauk Prairie scored early and often in an 8-0 Badger West victory over Monroe on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

The Eagles score their first two goals a minute apart, as Steven Romaker’s and Luke Mast’s shots got past goaltender Kyle Theorin. The Cheesemakers only added fuel to the fire, finding themselves in the penalty box for tripping and cross-checking. Sauk Prairie capitalized on both opportunities to take a 4-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Monroe had a golden scoring opportunity in the second period, as Sauk Prairie had two skaters in the penalty box for interference and check from behind. Instead, Mast completed his hat trick with a short-handed goal.

Mast added on in the third period, scoring just 21 seconds in. For the Eagles’ eighth goal of the game, Gunnar Nachreiner scored with assists from Landon Froese and Mast.

The Cheesemakers put 27 shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net. Conversely, the Eagles had 28 shots on goal with eight of them squeaking through. Theorin played all 51 minutes in net.

In the previous matchup, Sauk Prairie defeated Monroe 4-2. The Cheesemakers received goals from Cash Anderson and Wyatt Janecke.

CAP CITY 3, FURY 2

SUN PRAIRIE — Rock County’s comeback effort fell just short, as they dropped a Badger Conference game to the Cougars on Monday, Jan. 23.

Kaitlyn Nelson scored first for Cap City with an assist from Addy Swenson. Less than a minute later, Macy Murphy responded with a goal of her own, assisted by Mya Roller and Emma Kligora.

Nelson scored the only goal in the second period, which proved to be the difference maker. The third period was a wash — just like the first — as Marli Davenport scored for the Cougars and Kligora scored on the power play for the Fury.

Kligora led the team with two points, as Rock County put 30 shots in Cap City’s goaltender Izzy Hahn. Hahn stopped all but two goals for a .933 save percentage. Conversely, Jillian Traver stopped 33 of 36 shots for a .917 save percentage.
