NEW GLARUS — The Capitol Conference announced its all-conference teams from baseball and soccer this spring.

New Glarus senior centerfielder Cooper Dreyfus was named the league’s baseball player of the year. Dreyfus was one of just three to be unanimous all-conference selections in the Capitol South.

Dreyfus finished the season with a .436 batting average, a .550 on-base percentage and an .855 slugging percentage. Dreyfus had more extra base hits (14) than singles (10). He hit eight doubles, three triples and homered three times. He also drew 14 walks, drove in 16 runs, scored 23 times and swiped 12 bases while batting in the 3-hole for the Glarner Knights.

Also earning first-team all-conference honors for the Knights were senior infielder Darris Schuett and senior designated hitter Kylo Barker.

Junior pitcher Carter Siegenthaler was a second-team selection. Freshman Leyton Mihlbauer was a second team pick in the infield, as were sophomore outfielder Easton Dreyfus and senior utility Peyton Mendleski.

Belleville junior pitcher Trevor Syse was a first-team pick, as was junior outfielder Gavin Boyum. Sophomore pitcher Demarcus Connor, sophomore outfielder Kaden DeSmet and junior infielders Carson Syse and Ryan Downing were honorable mention picks.

In girls soccer, conference champion Sugar River had five first-team selections, three second-team nods and three other honorable mention picks.

Senior forward Jaylynn Benson was one a first team selection. She had 14 goals during the regular season, and 10 more in playoffs before the Raiders were eliminated from the WIAA Division 3 tournament. Only Lake Mills’s Ava Stetler (35) had more total goals this season than Benson (24) in the Capitol Conference. Stetler was named the league’s player of the year.

Joining Benson on the first team included senior midfielder Kirstin Krantz, and a trio of defensemen: Emma Anson, senior; Paige Leonard, junior; and Bella Brenkman, freshman. Brenkman was second on the team in goals scored (9), while Krantz was third (7). Krantz led the team in assists (7). Leonard finished the season with two goals and four assists.

Second team selections included junior forward Callie Smith, freshman midfielder Jenna Gentilli and junior goalkeeper Morgan Thompson. Smith scored six goals, while Gentilli had three. Thompson allowed just three goals in the regular season — including just one in conference play — and finished with 10 clean sheets.

Senior midfielders Regyn Jelle and Francesca Schiro were honorable mention picks, as was freshman Lily Maynard. Jelle had three goals and six assists this season. Schiro finished with two goals and three assists. Maynard had five assists.
