Darlington gymnast reaches state meet

PLATTEVILLE — Darlington freshman Quintessa Haesler qualified for the WIAA state gymnastics meet in the floor routine. The state meet will be held March 6 and 7 at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.

Haesler, who competes with the Southwestern co-op, was fifth at the Platteville Sectional Feb. 29 with her floor routine, finishing with a score of 8.850.

Haesler was 16th in the all-around with a score of 29.550. Sparta sophomore Lily Wiegand won the all-around by 2/10ths of a point over teammate Ella Hemker with a score of 36.250. Haesler’s senior teammate Cilla Downs was ninth (32.575).

Haesler struggled on the beam, scoring just a 5.650 (33rd), as well as the vault (7.450, 28th). On the uneven bars, she was 16th (7.600).

Sparta won the team title with a score of 134.5250, with the Platteville co-op finishing second and the Southwestern co-op fifth out of eight teams.
