DARLINGTON — The Redbirds won the boys regional title by a single point May 20, edging the Benton Co-Op 114-113. The Lady Redbirds took third, with Cuba City taking home the crown.
Darlington’s Kathleen Mathias won the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.31 seconds, while Monticello’s Alyssen Noriega (27.51) and Hannah Clark (27.93) finished second and third to advance to the May 23 sectional in Bangor.
Black Hawk’s Grace Neff won the 400-meter dash (1:04.52), with Pecatonica-Argyle’s Val Carr taking second (1:05.72).
Darlington’s Judith Meister was second in the 1,600 (5:51.53), while teammate Ilse Mendez also advanced with a fourth-place finish (5:52.15). Mendez was also third in the 3,200 (12:44.60), missing out on second place by 2/100ths of a second.
Sydney Beasley of Darlington was second in the 100-hurdles (17.32), and teammate Lizzie Schwartz was second in the 300-hurdles (49.99). Black Hawk’s Emily Triem also advances in the 300-hurdles after a fourth-place finish (52:43).
Taylor Wedig of the Redbirds was second in the long jump (15 feet, 9 inches).
Albany’s Libby Beck won the shot put (38-11.75), with Darlington’s Marissa Gould taking second (36-01). Beck was fourth in the discus to advance (100-02), moving on by just one inch.
Darlington edged Monticello in the 400-meter relay. The Redbirds winning time of 52.61 seconds was just 3/100ths of a second better than that of the Ponies.
Monticello was first place in the 800-relay (1:48.73), with Darlington second (1:49.20) and Albany third (1:51.03).
The Comets won the 1,600-relay (4:20.03), with Darlington second (4:24.31) and Black Hawk fourth (4:30.24). Albany also won the 3,200-relay (10:42.57), with the Redbirds finishing fourth (11:18.47).
Albany was third in girls team scoring, with Monticello ninth, Black Hawk 10th and Pecatonica-Argyle 11th.
Pecatonica-Argyle was sixth in boys team scoring, with Black Hawk ninth, Monticello 10th and Albany 11th.
Black Hawk’s Jared Vosberg was third in the boys 100 (12.16), just 2/100ths of a second out of first place. Darlington’s Alex Reuter was fourth (12.34).
In the 400, Pecatonica-Argyle advances Joe Tisch (54.25) and Chevy Hughes (54.43), and Vosberg also moved on with a fourth-place finish (55.35).
David Tisch of Pec-Argyle and Michael Thompson of Darlington finished 2-3 in the 800-meter run to advance. Thompson finished with a time of 2:12.43, while David Tisch crossed the end line at 2:09.18.
Darlington’s Payton Heinberg won the 1,600 (4:51.01), with Monticello’s Rudy Wicker taking second (4:53.12). Heinberg also won the 3,200 (10:42.91), with Monticello freshman Evan Guenther second (10:47.64).
Alex Reuter of Darlington advances in the high jump (5-7). Black Hawk’s Colby Argall was third in the long jump (19-09.25) while Hendrickson was fourth (18-06), advancing by one inch. Argall won the triple jump (39-06) and Lancaster was second (38-06).
Darlington’s Leif Bredeson won the shot put (45-06.5), with Albany’s Evan Blumer taking fourth (42-06.5). Blumer advanced after throwing the rock 1/2 inch further than Darlington’s Bailey Schilling and an inch-and-a-half beyond Darlington’s Matthew Douglas. Blumer would blow away the field in the discus (146-04), with Darlington’s Ross Stauffacher taking third (130-01).
In the 110-high hurdles, Pec-Argyle’s Jaden Hendrickson was second (16.40) with Darlington’s Ryley Lancaster third (17.79). Hendrickson also advanced in the 300-hurdles, taking third (43.41).
The Redbirds won the 1,600-meter relay (3:36.77), with Pec-Argyle second (3:38.86). Darlington also won the 3,200-relay (8:38.18), with Monticello second (8:43.71) and Pec-Argyle fourth (8:51.99).
Turner Regional
BELOIT — Brodhead-Juda advanced 24 out of the WIAA Division 2 Beloit Turner Regional May 20 and onto the East Troy Sectional, which was to be held May 23.
As a team, the Cardinals finished second to East Troy on the girls side, and fifth on the boys side. Whitewater (116) edged Edgerton (112) and Beloit Turner (111) for the boys team title.
On the girl’s side, Rhianna Teubert was the champion in the 100-meter hurdles, winning with a time of 16.39 seconds. Teubert also won the 300-hurdles at 49.15 seconds, equaled Whitewater’s Sydney Treder for the top mark in the pole vault (9 feet, 6 inches) and was a part of the third-place 1,600-meter relay team.
Madelynn McIntyre won the 3,200 (11:58.90) and the 1,600 (5:30.59).
Also qualifying for the Cardinals include Abby Mauerman in the high jump (4-06), Ellie Yates in the long jump (14-11.75), and Jada Burkhalter in the 100-meter dash (13.35).
Lexi Oliver was second in the shot put (32-02) while teammate Kalyn Lawrence was fourth (30-09). Nicole Kamholz was second in the 400-meter dash (1:03.36)
Brodhead-Juda also advanced in the 1,600-meter relay (11:12.70) and the 400-meter relay (55.04).
On the boys side, Jeff Williams was the champion in the 100-meter dash at 11.24 seconds.
Zach Loffelholz moves on in the discus (135-02.5), as does Royce Brauer, who was second in the triple jump (40-11.5). In the high jump, Josia Engen’s mark of 5-09 gives him a shot at sectionals. Jacob Staffon advances in the 400 (55.60), as does Cesar Salgado in the 200 (24.70).
Brodhead-Juda advanced in all four relay teams: the 800 (1:40.91), 400 (44.86), 1,600 (3:44.80) and 3,200 (9:22.67).
