Wauzeka-Steuben stops Juda-Albany
WAUZEKA — The Juda-Albany Panthers had won five of their past six games, but that run came to an end as the Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets (No. 4 seed) ended the Panthers season by a final of 8-1 in a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, May 27.
Sophomore Anna Bartels went 2x3 with a walk and scored Jubany’s only run in the fourth inning on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Rianna Sullivan. Senior Kierra Cleasby was 2x3. Sophomore Phoenix Homan was 1x3 with a walk for the Panthers.
Junior Emerson Briggs started for Juda-Albany and pitched 8 2/3 innings and gave up six runs (five earned), four walks, and three strikeouts. Freshman Ryleigh Brown pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief, and allowed two runs on two hits, two walks, and two strikeouts for the Panthers.
Juda-Albany ends its season 16-11.
Belmont rolls past Pecatonica
BELMONT — The Vikings saw their season come to an end with a 9-2 loss in a regional semifinal May 27 at top-seeded Belmont.
The Braves had seven players with two hits, and six players with at least one RBI. The bulk of the damage came in the fourth and fifth innings, where Belmont scored four runs in each frame. Kalli Hodgson and Carsyn Ramaker paired up to strike out 11 Pecatonica batters.
Diana Hendrickson took the loss in the circle, allowing nine runs (seven earned), 16 hits and three walked batters.
At the dish, Brooklyn Johnsrud and Katie Jorenby each had a double.
