Monroe girls basketball hosted its annual Monroe Cares game on Friday, Dec. 8, honoring football coach Toby Golembiewski.

MONROE — The Cheesemaker girls basketball team held its annual Monroe Cares game on Friday, Dec. 8 against Delavan-Darien. This year, the team honored head football coach Toby Golembiewski, who is battling colon cancer. During halftime, the community raised $1,313 to support the Golembiewski family.

The Monroe Cares game resulted in a 60-30 loss for the Lady Cheesemakers. Senior Delaney Fortney tied the game at two with a pair of free throws before Delavan-Darien went on a convincing 24-point run.

Sophie Golembiewski was Monroe’s leading scorer with eight points, followed by Fortney with six. Braylee Friedrich, who played all of six minutes, also scored six. Brinley Roidt and Alexis Gertsch grabbed four rebounds each.
