ALBANY — After a 2-23 overall and 2-10 Six Rivers East conference records, the Comets look to first-year head coach Kurt Soderberg to turn things around.
In his high school head coaching career, Soderberg is 205-129. His staff is comprised of Will Soderberg, Mitch Trow and Brandon Olsen.
“I want to create a culture of excellence,” Soderberg said. “The foundation we set this year will lead to consistent success and high expectations.”
Although the team graduated Tyler Anderson — an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection — and Andy Gertsch, it has four returners with varsity experience: Ethan Koss (SR), Carson Brewer (JR), Drew Sertle (JR) and Brayden Bakken (JR).
The returners — and newcomers who have been in the program at the JV or freshman level — will have to completely change their mindset, though, as Soderberg plans to implement new skillsets to reach his goals.
“The concepts within our system are new for all the players,” Soderberg said. “We [coaching staff] will need to be patient as they grow and learn. We will see growth in all aspects of our development. Our players have a desire to learn, improve and win. Their effort will reflect those desires. Our focus right now is on building a championship culture.”
The road to a conference championship includes contenders Barneveld and Monticello, Soderberg said after discussing with other coaches.
