ALBANY — For the second straight season, the Comets won their regional quarterfinal game and will hit the road for a regional semifinal match. No. 6 Albany beat No. 11 Benton 25-8, 25-16, 25-22 on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Alana Durtschi led the Comets with 14 kills, 25 digs and two blocks. Anna Ellinger contributed 111 kills, 14 digs and a team-best four blocks. Rachel Wildt and Myah Johnson served up two aces each, while Johnson and Ellie Modaff split the setting duties. The pair tallied 10 and 17 assists, respectively. Avary Briggs added six kills and 15 digs.
With the win Albany (17-10, 9-3 Six Rivers East) plays No. 3 Southwestern (12-11, 6-6 SWAL). Despite an overall and conference record near .500, the Wildcats’ schedule includes numerous Division 3 teams, including Mineral Point and No. 7-ranked Cuba City.
Southwestern beat Cassville 25-11, 25-18, 25-13 in a regional quarterfinal. The Wildcats beat Pecatonica twice this season, while Albany split with the Vikings in conference play.
NEW GLARUS 3, DEERFIELD 0
NEW GLARUS — The No. 5 Knights downed the No. 12 Demons 25-22, 25-8, 25-17 in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Lindsey Schadewalt led the team offensively with 18 kills, while Carrah Bainbridge tallied 18 digs. Veronica Tollakson and Emma Hendrickson combined for seven aces.
New Glarus (19-11, 7-3 Capitol South) travels to No. 4 Darlington (19-9, 8-4 SWAL) for a regional semifinal. Darlington defeated No. 13 Riverdale 25-23, 25-9, 25-22. The Knights and Redbirds met during the Monroe Invite in August, where the New Glarus topped Darlington 2-0.
BRODHEAD 3, CAMBRIDGE 0
BRODHEAD — The Cardinals snapped a three-game losing streak with a 26-24, 25-19, 25-14 win over the Blue Jays in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, Oct. 17. With the win, No. 3 Brodhead advances to play No. 6 Belleville in a regional semifinal.
Belleville (11-18, 4-6 Capitol South) beat conference opponent Wisconsin Heights 25-13, 25-16, 22-25, 25-15. Brodhead (11-14, 5-5 Rock Valley-Rock) have not played each other this season but share many opponents. Notably, both teams beat Cambridge. Belleville, though, fell to Evansville in its season opener while the Cardinals and Blue Devils split during the regular season.
In other local volleyball, No. 13 Monroe fell to No. 4 Dodgeville 25-9, 25-8, 25-12 in a Division 2 regional quarterfinal. The Cheesemakers ended their season 5-18 overall and 2-6 in conference, making strides compared to their 2-21 season last year.
No. 15 Juda fell to No. 2 Highland 25-4, 25-5, 25-8 in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal. The Panthers were unable to collect a win this season, finishing 0-17 overall.
