MADISON — The Monroe boys co-op hockey team lost a tight game Feb. 8 that had been postponed from Jan. 29 due to inclement weather, 5-4 in overtime against Madison La Follette-East.

“We outplayed them, but we could not put them away,” Monroe coach Barry Einbeck said. “The boys worked hard and I saw a lot of good things.”

The Cheesemakers took an early 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game when Jared Cline lit the lamp unassisted. Three minutes later Madison tied it at 1-1.

Monroe again held a lead in the second, as Hayden Roth scored a power play goal with an assist from Payton Stauffacher 6:31 into the second period. Madison would score the next two goals and lead 3-2 at the second intermission.

Just 71 seconds into the third, the Lakers made it 4-2. Monroe rebounded, with Roman Bauer scoring unassisted two minutes later, and Kaiden Klitzke netting the equalizer with less than 7:18 to play.

In the overtime period, Madison’s Ben Roloff lit the last lamp 5:15 into the period.
