MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers are wrestling champs again, having won the regular season dual schedule in the Rock Valley-Valley. The title comes after a 54-24 win over Jefferson on Jan. 28.
Six different Cheesemakers recorded pins on the night, and it started with the fastest match of the evening. After a Monroe forfeit at 106 pounds, Noah Schuh (113) pinned Jacksyn Ridgeman in just 30 seconds. Monroe also got pinfall victories by Weston Huntsman (135, 3:49), Connor Eckdhal (150, 3:30), Braedyn Nally (157, 3:44), Patrick Harms (190, 3:23) and Joah Wellman (215, 3:26).
Monroe also had two tech fall victories and two major decisions. Owen Voegeli (120) defeated Nick Lara 15-2 for a major decision, and Joe Rufenacht (165) also won via major decision, 8-0, over Logan Marshall. Carson Menehan (132) earned a 16-1 tech fall victory at the 2:34 mark. Garrett Minder (144) won 21-4 at the 4:55 mark with a tech fall of his own.
Monroe’s regular season comes to an end on Friday, Jan. 31 at Dodgeville, a rescheduled game from Dec. 19.
The Rock Valley conference meets for boys and girls will be held at the end of next week.
Girls regionals are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 14, while boys regionals are the next day. Girls sectionals will be Friday, Feb. 21, and boys is Saturday, Feb. 22. Boys team sectionals will be Tuesday, Feb. 18.
The state meet begins Thursday, Feb. 27 and will conclude Saturday, March 1.
Also on Jan. 28, Darlington-Black Hawk edged out conference rival Cuba City 38-35. The Warbirds scored 24 points thanks to Cuban forfeits.
