Unearned Runs Help Cheesemakers Win Over Delavan-Darien 3-1

The Monroe Cheesemakers slipped by the first-place Delavan-Darien Comets 3-1 in RVC-Valley baseball on May 15 at Monroe. The Cheesemakers won despite getting only two hits. All three runs by Monroe were unearned because of seven errors by the Comets. Catcher Logan Meier and center fielder Marcus Ott got base hits for the Cheesemakers. Second baseman Eli Schaefer and pitcher Zane Seffrood drove in runs for the Cheese. Seffrood pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed just one run on two hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. Owen Hicks got the final out of the game to record the save. 


Walks Help Stoughton Vikings To 13-7 Win Over Cheesemakers

The Stoughton Vikings took advantage of 14 walks allowed by Monroe to come up with a 13-7 win over the Cheesemakers on May 17 in nonconference high school baseball. The big inning for the Vikings was a six-run sixth inning which allowed Stoughton to pull away. The Cheesemakers were led by second baseman Eli Schaefer, who went 2x2 with an RBI and a run scored. Designated hitter Logan Meier, right fielder Cole Meighan, and third baseman Zane Seffrood also had RBIs for Monroe. The Cheesemakers fell to 10-8 overall with the loss. Monroe, 3-3 in the Rock Valley-Valley, was set to host Edgerton on May 19 and play at East Troy on May 20.


Space Stallions Win Slugfest With Orangeville Broncos 13-12

The Monticello-Albany Space Stallions faced deficits of 6-2 and 9-8 early in their nonconference game against Orangeville on May 15, but scored a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to win 13-12 at Albany. Senior designated hitter Cody Pryce came up big for the Space Stallions by going 4x6 with three RBIs and scored three runs. Junior first baseman Tyler Patchen was 3x6 with three RBIs and scored two runs. Sophomore third baseman Ty Durtschi walked three times and scored two runs. Durtschi, senior Leon Parker, and sophomore Tanner Hilliard all pitched and combined to strike out 13 batters. 


Highland Uses 2-Run Fifth Inning To Top Monticello-Albany 3-1 

The Highland Cardinals scored two runs in the fifth inning to get by the Monticello-Albany Space Stallions 3-1 in Six Rivers baseball May 16 at Albany. Sophomore Tyler Constantini got two of the Space Stallions four hits and sophomore Ty Durtschi drove in the only run of the game for Albany-Monticello in the fourth inning. Senior Cody Pryce started and allowed three runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts. The Space Stallions fell to 2-13 in the Six Rivers with the loss. Monticello-Albany is 4-18 overall with a nonconference game at Brodhead-Juda on May 19 and a conference game May 20 against Barneveld in Monticello.


Pecatonica Losses Both Games Of Triangular

The Pecatonica Vikings hosted the Pecatonica Triangular at McKellar Park in Blanchardville on May 17 and lost both of the games they played in.

The Vikings faced Iowa-Grant in the first game and lost 13-1 in five innings. The Panthers scored their runs in bunches, getting five runs in the second inning and seven runs in the fourth inning. 

Pecatonica then hosted Beloit Memorial and lost 11-7. The Purple Knights wasted no time in taking control with eight runs over the first two innings. The Vikings got two runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings but it wasn’t enough. Senior Drew Hendrickson, senior Trevor Doescher, sophomore Austin Enloe, and freshman Reid Schlimgen all scored runs for the Vikings. The loss, Pec’s fourth in a row, drops the Vikings’ record to 10-11 overall. Pecatonica returns to conference action on May 20 at home against Argyle-Black Hawk.


Brodhead-Juda Cardinals Lose Both Games Of Jefferson Triangular

The Brodhead Cardinals came up empty at the Jefferson Triangular on May 17, losing both baseball games played at UW-Whitewater to Fort Atkinson, 7-2 and to Jefferson 11-0 in five innings. Against Fort Atkinson, the Cardinals found themselves down 5-0 after the first inning. Brodhead didn’t score until the sixth inning when catcher Gabe Bockhop and shortstop Sam Searls scored runs. Searls hit a double and got a stolen base for the Cardinals. First baseman Max Pinnow got a hit and an RBI. 

In the second game, the host school, Jefferson, shut out the Cardinals on three hits, 11-0. Catcher Gabe Bockhop and right fielder Brody Riese each got a double and centerfielder David Masloske collected the only hits for Brodhead. They were the only base runners for the Cardinals as no one was issued a walk. With the two losses, Brodhead now has a record of 9-12 overall. The Cardinals get back into conference action with a home game against the Clinton Cougars in the  RVC-Rock on May 19.


Belleville Drops Both Games Of Belleville Triangular

The Belleville Wildcats lost both games they played in the Belleville Triangular on May 17. The Wildcats lost to West Salem 10-7 in the first game. The Panthers grabbed a 6-1 in the first two innings. The Wildcats got to within 6-4 by the third inning, but got no closer. Senior Niles Monroe hit a home run for the Wildcats. Pitcher Marcus Hebgen was 2x2 with two RBIs and scored a run for Belleville. Right fielder Randy Raven added two hits along with two RBIs for Belleville. 

In the second game on May 17, the Wildcats lost to the Baraboo Thunderbirds, 14-3 at Belleville. The Wildcats generated only two hits. Left fielder Austin McKinley, center fielder Logan Derke, and right fielder Marcus Hebgen got RBIs for the Wildcats. With the losses, Belleville falls to 7-14 overall. Still, the Wildcats are in a four-way tie for first place in the Capitol South with Wisconsin Heights, Cambridge, and New Glarus with conference records of 5-3. Belleville hosts Parkview in a nonconference game on May 19.


Iowa-Grant Outslugs Darlington 22-13

The Iowa-Grant Panthers scored 12 runs over the final two innings and beat the Darlington Redbirds by the football-like score of 22-13 in SWAL baseball on May 16. The Redbirds got off to a 9-5 lead after four innings, but the Panthers racked up 17 runs off six Darlington pitchers the rest of the way. The Redbirds were led by right fielder Landon Edgerton, who had two hits, three RBIs and a run scored. Sophomore Dante Glendenning went 3x4 with a triple, two RBIs, and scored two runs. Calum Crist got three hits in five at-bats, drove in two runs, and scored two runs for the Redbirds. Darlington is 2-9 in the SWAL and 5-13 overall. The Redbirds play at Potosi-Cassville in a nonconference game May 19 before returning to league play the next night at Southwestern.
