MONROE — The Cheesemakers used a big sixth inning to knock off Fort Atkinson May 2, only for Portage to counter two days later with a key 8-run sixth inning to buy Monroe in Badger West action.

In a 5-2 win against Fort, Monroe fell behind 2-0 in the fourth inning. Two frames later, the Cheesemakers batted around the order and scored five runs — all with two outs.

Henry Brukwicki scored the win on the mound, tossing exactly 100 pitches in seven innings of work, striking out nine while giving up five hits and two walks. Brevin Rach had three hits on the day for Monroe, including a double. No other hitter in the game had more than one hit.

Against Portage two days later, things unraveled quickly for the home team, which went on to lose 14-3. Portage scored twice in the top of the first, only for Monroe to even the score. But the Warriors added one run in the fourth, three in the fifth, and then eight more in the top of the sixth to put the Cheesemakers down by double digits, invoking the mercy rule in the process.

Portage finished the night with 12 hits, five walks 14 earned runs. Six Warriors were hit by pitches. George Brukwicki started on the mound for Monroe, allowing seven hits and three runs in four innings. Reliever Drew Indergand allowed six runs in 1.1 innings of work, hitting three batters, walking two and allowing three hits. Chase Stoerp struggled through 1/3 of an inning, allowing five runs. He hit two batters, gave up two hits and walked two more before Keegan Dahmen was able to come in and close out the sixth.

At the plate, Tucker Markham had two hits from the leadoff spot, catcher Trevor Schmitt also had two hits, and Chase Stoerp doubled.

Argyle 13, Black Hawk 7

ARGYLE — The Orioles led Black Hawk 6-0 through three innings of their game May 2, but by the time the bottom of the fifth rolled around, the Warriors had brought it to 7-4.

A 6-run fifth inning gave Argyle all it needed for insurance runs, picking up a Six Rivers East victory in the process.

Dempsey Schliem doubled and singled for Black Hawk, while Will Helfvogt finished the night with three hits, a walk and two runs for Argyle. Ike Wagge added two hits for the Orioles, with Brady Penniston driving in three runs with a double, and Alex Gilbertson tripling, walking twice and scored three runs from the leadoff spot. In the 9-hole, Noah Moen walked twice, had a hit, drove in two and scored twice himself.

Schliem tossed 3.1 innings before being replaced by Dylan Haldiman. The pair struck out a combined nine batters but allowed nine hits and seven walks. Just five of the 13 runs against Black Hawk were earned.

Buddy Gerber was credited with the win for Argyle, striking out seven in 5.1 innings. He allowed five hits, five walks and six runs (three earned). Helfvogt tossed the final 1.2 in relief to close the door.

Evansville 7, Brodhead-Juda 5

BRODHEAD — Wyatt Nelson doubled twice and Willard Peterson had three hits for the Blue Devils, which knocked off the Cardinals May 3.

Aidyn Vondra and David Mazloski each had two hits for Brodhead-Juda, with Mazlowski driving in two. Brady Malkow singled and walked three times, and Gabe Bockhop walked twice and scored a run.

Cooper Woelky allowed five Evansville runs in three innings of work. Kohen Sawle tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, and Clayton Elliot finished off the sixth inning with a strikeout. Malkow pitched the seventh, and Evansville was able to scratch off two unearned runs to score the late victory.

New Glarus 3, Marshall 2

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights went home happy with a walk-off victory May 4 against the Cardinals in a Capitol South game.

Marshall had tied it at 2-2 in the top of the seventh with an unearned run. In the bottom half of the frame, Cale Weeden reached on an error with one out, giving the Knights the base-runner they desperately needed. Courtesy runner Dylan Fritz moved to second on a passed ball, and Easton Dreyfus drew a walk to put two runners on.

Patrick Alt, the next batter, sent a 3-1 pitch to left to score Fritz and end the ballgame.

Dreyfus finished the night with a hit and two walks. Alt and Brett Warrell both had a walk and a single. Leyton Mihlbauer pitched six innings, allowing a single unearned run on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts. Brett Warrell gave up three hits in the seventh in relief.

Potosi-Cassville 10, Darlington 3

POTOSI — The Redbirds couldn’t catch up to the Chieftains in their game May 2.

Braden Davis had two hits and two RBIs for Darlington, while Breylin Goebel, Hunter Hardyman and Maddox Goebel walked twice. Chase Figi walked three times, and Maddox Goebel scored two runs.

The Redbirds used three pitchers in the game, with reliever Riggs Black taking the loss, pitching innings 3-4 and allowing six runs.

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings knocked off the Braves May 2 in a Six Rivers crossover game.
