MONROE — The Cheesemakers rallied in the second half to score a 58-48 win over Janesville Craig Jan. 12.
Megan Benzschawel led all scorers with 20 points for Monroe, and in the process moved into sixth all-time in program history with 924 career points, passing Sara Deignan (Class of 1995) and Sydney Mathiason (2018), while Breanna Giasson had 15, Taylor Jacobson 11 and Sloane Ambrose 7.
The Cheesemakers trailed 28-20 at halftime, but outscored Craig 38-20 in the second half.
Up next for Monroe (3-2) is a 6-game stretch of road games, starting with a Jan. 16 date at Milton, followed by Fort Atkinson (Jan. 19), Watertown (Jan. 21) and McFarland (Jan. 22).
Black Hawk 85, Argyle 47
ARGYLE — The top-ranked Warriors made it 63-wins in a row, good enough for sixth all-time in state history for consecutive wins.
Bailey Butler went 4 for 7 from beyond the arc and scored 31 points, had 10 assists, 9 steals and 6 rebounds for Black Hawk in the Jan. 12 win. Butler leads all players in all divisions in Wisconsin in points per game and assists per game, and is second in Division 5 in 3-point percentage at 47.5% (29 of 61). Butler, a UW-Green Bay commit, also passed sister Hannah Butler and UW-Green Bay standout Jen Wellnitz for second place all-time in program history in scoring, trailing only Natalie Leuzinger of the Wisconsin Badgers. Butler (1,608) needs just 195 to equal Leuzinger (1,803), her former teammate.
Kaylee Marty scored 18 points for Black Hawk, with Macie Stauffacher adding 11 and Tara Wellnitz 9. Wellnitz added 8 rebounds. Collectively, the Warriors had 21 steals and forced 23 turnovers while committing just five turnovers themselves. Black Hawk was also a solid 15 of 20 from the free throw line and 10 of 26 from deep.
Tori Lantz led Argyle with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Grace Ganshert added 12 points and Maggie Godfrey tallied 10. The Orioles were 6 of 10 from 3 and out-rebounded Black Hawk overall 30-29. The Warriors led 43-17 at halftime.
Black Hawk (9-0, 5-0 Six Rivers East) travel to fourth-ranked Albany (11-1, 6-1) Jan. 15. Black Hawk won the previous meeting Jan. 4 by 20. Argyle (5-8, 3-4) was scheduled to host Barneveld (2-3, 1-3) Jan. 15.
New Glarus 70, Wisconsin Heights 35
NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights dominated the Vanguards from start to finish Jan. 12. New Glarus led 41-17 at halftime and outscored Wisconsin Heights 29-18 in the second half.
Knights freshman Lindsey Schadewalt led all scorers with 23 points. Senior teammate Jaylynn Benson added 14 points, and Grace Nommensen chipped in 8.
New Glarus (11-3, 4-1 Capitol South) trails top-ranked Marshall (12-1, 4-0) by a half-game in the league standings, and was set to host the Cardinals Jan. 15. A win would give the Knights a shot at a shared conference title. New Glarus is also scheduled to play at Deerfield Jan. 18, then travel to Cambridge Jan. 21.
Albany 66, Williams Bay 13
ALBANY — The Comets (11-1), ranked fourth in Division 5, dominated Williams Bay in a nonconference game Jan. 12.
The home team led 34-5 at halftime, then outscored Williams Bay 32-8 in the second half.
Brianna Dahl led all scorers with 18 points for Albany. Jada Flannery (11) and Alana Durtschi (10) also reached double figures. Myah Johnson added 9. Nine of the 11 Comets scored.
Barneveld 60, Juda 34
JUDA — Anna Skoumal had 12 points and Ciarrah Davis and Maddie Smith each had 9 for the Panthers, but it wasn’t enough against the Eagles Jan. 12.
Barneveld posted a 39-15 advantage at intermission, and outscored the host team 21-19 in the second half.
Juda collectively shot 10 of 16 from the free throw line, while the Eagles were just 3 of 10.
The loss came on the heels of another defeat Jan. 11 to Parkview, 62-37.
In other area action, Darlington’s girls team defeated Riverdale 52-48 Jan. 12.
