Cheesemakers Pound Whippets Again 16-3

For the second time in a week, the Monroe Cheesemakers get a lopsided win over the Whitewater Whippets, 16-3 at Whitewater on May 1 in Rock Valley Conference Valley Division action. Combined with their 20-5 win over the Whippets on April 29, the Cheesemakers pounded the Whippets 36-8 in the two conference games. Catcher Logan Meier led Monroe’s 16-hit attack by going 3x4 with a triple and three RBIs. Left fielder Cam Newcomer and right fielder Marcus Ott went 3x5 with an RBI. Newcomer scored three runs and had a double. The Cheesemakers used three pitchers to strike out 11 batters: Owen Hicks, Ian Berg, and Owen Douglas. It was actually a close game for five innings as the Cheesemakers held a 5-3 lead. But, the Cheese scored six runs in the sixth and five runs in the seventh to pull away. 


Monroe Sweeps Big Foot Doubleheader

On May 2, the Cheesemakers swept a doubleheader at Big Foot. In the first game, Monroe won 3-0 thanks to a complete game shutout by Marcus Ott, who struck out 10, walked two and allowed just three hits across seven innings and 86 pitches. At the plate, Ashton Hale had two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Ott also had two hits and drove in a run. Logan Meier and Eli Schaefer also scored for Monroe. In the second game, the Cheesemakers prevailed 7-6 thanks to some timely hitting in the late innings. Monroe had built up a 5-1 lead through three innings, but Big Foot tied it at 6-6 thanks to a three-run sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Hale walked on four straight pitches and stole second and third during the next at bat, putting himself just 90 feet from the plate. He scored easily thanks to a single from Cole Meighan. Ian Berg started for Monroe and allowed three runs in four innings. Zane Seffrood took over in the fifth and struggled with location, allowing three runs thanks to seven walks in 1 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. Blake Geisler came on to get the final out of the sixth and get credited with the win. At the dish, Meighan and Ott each had two hits, with Ott driving in three runners and Meighan bringing home two. Hale finished with three steals and two runs scored.


New Glarus Earns Capitol South Win Over Belleville

Sophomore Nolan Julseth pitched five and 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on two hits and freshman Brock Roth gave up no hits and struck out two in relief as the New Glarus Glarner Knights prevailed over the Belleville Wildcats 4-2 in a Capitol South Conference game on May 2. Junior Landon Stelter got a hit and drove in a run. Freshman Ethan Cohlstad drew a pair of walks and scored a run for the Glarner Knights. Belleville was led by shortstop Niles Monroe who got a hit, walked twice, and scored a run. With the win, New Glarus (8-4, 4-2 Capitol South) put themselves just a half-game behind conference front-runner Wisconsin Heights. Belleville is 3-3 in the Capitol South, and 4-10 overall. New Glarus was scheduled to play at Mineral Point on May 5 while Belleville was to visit Lodi.


Home Runs Help Darlington To Win Over Pecatonica

Maddox Goebel and Grady O’Brien hit home runs to lead the Darlington Redbirds past the Pecatonica Vikings 16-6 in six innings in non-conference baseball on May 1. O’Brien drove in three runs and sophomore Dante Glendenning went 2x4 with a double and three RBIs. Darlington ran wild over the Vikings with 13 stolen bases. Maddox Goebel had five stolen bases and Peyton Dempsy stole three bases. Sophomore Griffin Noll was 2x2 with a double and two runs scored for Pecatonica. First baseman Drew Hendrickson had a double and an RBI for the Vikings. 

Darlington lost to Fennimore, 5-2 on May 2 to drop to 1-6 in the SWAL conference and 4-10 overall. Pecatonica got by Benton-Shullsburg, 8-7 on May 2 to improve to 6-4 in the Six Rivers Conference and 8-6 overall. Darlington was scheduled to host Mineral Point on May 5 while Pecatonica traveled to River Ridge on the same day.


Brodhead-Juda Is No-Hit By East Troy, Wins Against Stoughton

Senior Seth Lingford of East Troy threw a no-hitter against the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals in a 2-0 win in nonconference baseball on May 2. Third baseman Chase Bauman was the only baserunner for the Cardinals when he got on with a walk. Sam Searls pitched a solid game for the Cardinals, but took the loss. The junior allowed just two runs on three hits. Searls also struck out five batters. 

The Cardinals recovered from the no-hitter by beating Stoughton, 3-1 on May 3. Catcher Gabe Bockhop went 3x3 with a double and an RBI. Center fielder David Masloske got a walk and scored two runs. Parker Vanderpal pitched five innings and allowed no runs on three hits. Brodhead-Juda now has a record of 1-2 in the Rock Valley conference, Rock Division and 7-6 overall. The Cardinals travel to Evansville May 6 for an RVC-Rock Division game.


Highland Cardinals Dominate in 11-0 Win Over Argyle-Black Hawk

The Highland Cardinals bunched all of their runs together over the final three innings in an 11-0 win over the Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles in Six Rivers Conference baseball on May 2. The Orioles managed to get only two hits in the five-inning game. The Orioles got only three runners on base. Weston Ganshert and Mikey Helfvogt got base hits and Deacon Kuebli got on with a walk. The Orioles are 1-11 in the Six Rivers and 1-13 overall. Argyle-Black Hawk was set to host Monticello-Albany in another Six Rivers game  May 5.
