STOUGHTON — Monroe closed out its regular season with an 81-63 win over Stoughton Feb. 20.
The Cheesemakers had five players in double figures, led by junior Megan Benzschawel’s double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds. She added seven assists, three away from the vaunted triple-double. Benzschawel was a perfect 10 for 10 at the free throw line and finished 6 of 12 from the field.
Senior Grace Mathiason hit 4 of 5 3-pointers and finished with 18 points. Senior Grace Tostrud hit a pair of 3s, grabbed six rebounds and scored 11 points. Senior Emma Towne and freshman Taylor Jacobson each hit a pair of threes and scored 10 points.
The Cheesemakers finished 9 for 20 (45%) from downtown and 14 of 17 from the free throw line. Monroe jumped out to a 41-32 lead at halftime.
Benzschawel led the Badger South in scoring this season at 17.6 points per game, while Tostrud was fifth (12.7). Tostrud was the league’s top rebounder (9.8 rpg), with Benzschawel (8.1) second.
New Glarus 69, Cambridge 66, OT
CAMBRIDGE — Jaylynn Benson dropped 33 points on the Bluejays in the regular season finale, carrying the Glarner Knights to victory Feb. 20.
New Glarus led by eight at halftime, but Cambridge charged hard in the second half and sent the game into an extra session. Benson & Co. took care of business in overtime, outscoring the Bluejays 12-9.
Lily Himmelmann added 12 points for New Glarus, while guard Shealyn Klosterman-Havens and forward Dylan Noll each had eight points.
Cambrdige had four players reach double figures, with Ashlynn Jarlsberg, Gracie Korth and Olivia Williams each scoring 15 points.
Benson, a junior, finished second in the Capitol South in scoring at 17.7 ppg.
Black Hawk 61, Monticello 26
SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors capped another unbeaten season in the Six Rivers East with a Feb. 21 win over the Ponies. It was the fourth straight unbeaten conference season by the Warriors, with the league winning streak at 46 games.
Hannah Butler finished with a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds, while sister Bailey scored eight points and had 13 steals. Natalie Leuzinger and Kaylee Marty each had nine for the Warriors.
Black Hawk was just 3 of 22 from 3-point land, but stole the ball 31 times and had just three team fouls.
Seniors Hannah Butler, Maddy Huschitt and Leuzinger have never lost a conference game in their four seasons with the Warriors. Hannah Butler finished as the league’s top scorer this season at 18.6 points per game. Leuzinger (16.3) was second and Bailey Butler (14.9) fourth.
Black Hawk 57, Cambridge 36
CAMBRIDGE — The Warriors led by 14 at the half and never looked back.
Bailey Butler had 20 points, with Leuzinger adding 17 and Hannah Butler 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Black Hawk had 22 steals and 37 rebounds to the Bluejays 26 boards. Cambridge finished with 29 turnovers to Black Hawk’s 16. Cambridge was 0 for 9 from beyond the 3-point arc, while the Warriors finished 7 of 19.
The victory was the 49th straight for Black Hawk, dating back to the beginning of last season.
Brodhead 54, Turner 51
BELOIT — The Cardinals outscored the Trojans 33-30 in the second half of the regular season finale to guarantee themselves a third-place finish in the Rock Valley this season.
Kiarra Moe scored 21 points to lead Brodhead, while Abbie Dix added 13 and Carissa Purdue 11. Dix, a freshman, finished the regular season third in the conference in scoring (15.8 points per game) and first in rebounds (12.2).
Olivia Tinder led Turner with 18 points.
Mineral Point 56, Darlington 51
MINERAL POINT — The Redbirds trailed by 16 at halftime and still brought the game back to within two points late in the second half before falling in the SWAL finale Feb. 20.
Allison Thompson finished with 17 points and 22 rebounds to lead Darlington. Ella Chambers led Mineral Point with 16 points.
Mineral Point ends the regular season as co-SWAL champion with Cuba City. Both teams finished 13-1 in league play. Darlington (9-5 SWAL, 11-10 overall) was the only other team above .500 in conference play.
In other area action, Albany defeated Pecatonica 60-37 Feb. 21.
