baseball stock 29

FORT ATKINSON — A 2-run sixth inning was not enough to overcome a 3-run hole for the Cheesemakers in a 4-3 Badger South loss to the Fort Atkinson Blackhawks May 4.

Monroe left 11 runners on base, including leaving bases loaded in three separate innings.

“We couldn’t come up with a big hit when we needed to,” Monroe coach Eric Losenegger said. “We made it interesting at the end — had the tying run on first base in the seventh and couldn’t get it done.”

Henry Brukwicki tossed all six innings for Monroe, allowing three earned runs on six hits and four walks while striking out seven.

“Henry threw well. He had a lot better stuff tonight. He grinded out six innings for us and put us in a position to win,” Losenegger said.

Charles Briggs and Tyler Matley each had two hits for the Cheesemakers, while Evan Beyer had a hit and a walk. Beyer scored twice, while Preston Ambrose scored Monroe’s other run. Briggs had two RBIs.

The two teams were slated to finish the season series May 7 at Monroe. The Cheesemakers are scheduled to host Warren in a doubleheader May 8.

Pecatonica 7, Potosi-Cassville 6

POTOSI — A sacrifice fly by Dakota Doescher in the sixth inning was the insurance run the Vikings needed as they beat Potosi-Cassville in a Six Rivers crossover game May 4.

Tyler McKeon, who scored the game-winning run, took to the mound in the bottom half of the inning. McKeon collected the save, striking out two in two innings, and allowed a run in the seventh.

Devon Doran started on the mound for Pecatonica, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts in four innings. Elijah Knutson allowed an unearned run in the fifth inning as a reliever.

The Vikings scored four runs in the first inning and one in both the second and third innings. P/C scored twice in the bottom of the first and twice more in the fourth, before adding a run in the fifth and seventh.

Doescher had two walks, two RBIs and a run. Bryce Johnsrud was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Knutson had a hit and two walks.

The Vikings had two caught base stealers and picked off another runner at second.

Jefferson 16, Brodhead-Juda 1

BRODHEAD — Three Cardinal pitchers allowed a combined 12 walks and eight hits in five innings of work in a Rock Valley loss to the Eagles May 4.

Brady Malkow pitched the first three innings, giving up 10 runs (8 earned) on five hits and six walks, including a home run to Luis Serrano. Cooper Woelky pitched 1.1 innings, walking five with three hits and a hit batter, allowing six runs (5 earned) to cross the plate. Kohen Sawle got the final two outs via Ks, and walked a batter.

Brodhead-Juda had just two hits in the game while striking out 12 times. Ten of the 11 outs Jefferson starter Tyler Butina got were via the strikeout. Malkow reached base twice in the game, collecting a double and a walk.

Southwestern 10, Darlington 4

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds committed five errors, struck out 10 times and finished with just three hits in a SWAL defeat at the hands of the Wildcats May 4.

Braden Davis started on the hill, tossing 3.2 innings while allowing five runs — two earned — on four walks and two hits, including a home run.

Gage Banfield tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief. Breylin Goebel was tagged four five unearned runs in 1/3 of an inning in the seventh, and Carter Lancaster came onto the mound to get out of the frame.

Goebel scored twice on offense, while Hunter Hardyman had a double and two RBIs.

Argyle 8, River Ridge 7

PATCH GROVE — The Orioles held on late to score a win over River Ridge in a crossover game May 4.

Argyle scored two runs in the first and another in the second, but River Ridge tied it at 3 in the bottom of the third. Argyle added two more runs in the fourth and three in the sixth to go up 8-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, River Ridge plated three runs on closer Clay Ritschard, who was able to close the door and seal the win with runners on second and third.

Ritschard was 2-for-2 at the dish with two walks and two RBIs coming on a 2-run blast in the fourth inning. Jayden Johnson was 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and a triple. Will Helfvogt had a hit and two walks for Argyle as well.
