OREGON — The Cheesemakers scored their second win of the season with a 9-3 thrashing of Stoughton Jan. 15 in the Badger Challenge.
Blaze Janecke led Monroe (2-14, 0-6 Badger West) with four goals and two assists. Nate Ratke had two goals and Xander Obert saved 15 shots to secure the win. Monroe outshot Stoughton 54-15.
Cash Anderson opened the scoring by lighting the lamp with 12:59 left in the first period. Haden Barker and Cole Buholzer assisted.
Stoughton (1-13-1, 0-9 Badger East) evened it just 33 seconds later, but Ratke slipped one past the goalie to make it 2-1, with Janecke and Josh Haight assisting.
In the second period, Stoughton against tied it early on, but Monroe strung off three straight goals to secure the lead – two from Janecke and another from Ratke. Haight added a second assist during the stretch.
Stoughton made it 5-3 with a power play goal late in the second, but Blaze Janecke earned his hat trick off a pass from Wyatt Janecke with just 29 seconds left in the period.
Blaze scored his fourth goal on a power play early in the third, with Haight and Adian Grey assisting. Carson Kurschner and Cole Buholzer added late goals for Monroe, with Carter Nemergut and Gavin Roth earning assists.
