MONROE — The Cheesemakers were knocked out of the WIAA Division 2 playoffs with a heartbreaking 10-9 loss to Edgerton at Twining Park May 24.
Senior Sloane Ambrose was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a steal, an RBI and three runs scored in her final high school game.
Sophie Golembiewski, Olivia Feller, Brinley Roidt and Sydnee Conway each had two hits, with Conway and Feller driving in a pair, and Golembiewski and Katie Witt adding doubles.
Katrina Sathoff took the loss on the hill, allowing just six earned runs with no strikeouts and no walks, though she allowed 17 hits and the Monroe defense committed four errors.
Edgerton scored two runs in the opening inning, but Monroe countered with two runs of their own on good baserunning by Ambrose and fellow senior Karis Paulson. The two squads again added equalizing two runs each in the third inning, but the Tiders scored five times in the fourth to put Monroe on its heels.
The Cheesemakers didn’t quit, scoring three times in the fifth and entered their final half inning of the season trailing by three. Monroe would score two runs in the frame, but Conway was stranded at first as Paulson grounded out to the game.

WIAA Division 3 Playoffs
Brodhead 6, Luther Prep 0
BRODHEAD — Freshman Ava Risum had a day to remember — a near-perfect game. Pitching in her first WIAA Division 3 playoff game, the young star dominated for 82 of her 83 pitches.
It was the first pitch she’d like back, as the game’s leadoff hitter lifted a single to right field. No other Luther Prep batter reached base the rest of the game, as Risum struck out 13 of the final 21 batters.
At the plate, the Cardinals took a while to get going, getting blanked on the scoreboard for the first four innings. Then in the bottom of the fifth, McKenna Young walked and stole second, then came around to score on Cora Hafen’s one-out single to center. Two batters later, Alexis Kammerer hit a grounder that the second baseman couldn’t handle, and Hafen touched home plate cleanly.
In the sixth inning, Jerricka Schwartz singled with one out and moved to second as Risum was hit by a pitch. A hit parade followed, with Taetum Hoesly, Young and Hafen all driving in a run on back-to-back-to-back singles. Kammerer drove in a fourth run with two outs.
Hafen and Hoesly each finished the game with two hits, while Young had a hit, a walk, two steals and two runs scored.
Brodhead was scheduled to play Cambridge in the regional final May 26, with the winner advancing to the May 31 sectional at a location to be determined.
