OREGON — The Cheesemakers struggled in the first half and couldn’t recover in a 77-57 loss to Oregon Feb. 1, two days after beating Freeport by 26 in a nonconference game.

Oregon (13-4, 9-1), which sit atop in the Badger South standings, jumped out to a 41-21 lead at halftime.

Megan Benzschawel led Monroe (8-7, 4-4) in scoring with 21 points, while Grace Tostrud added 17. Oregon put four players in double figures: Liz Uhl (16), Kaitlyn Schrimpf (14), Carleigh Roberts (12) and Emily Statz (11).

In Monroe’s 59-33 win over the Pretzels Jan. 30, Benzschawel finished three steals shy of a triple double. She had 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals in the game. Taylor Jacobson had 10 points, while Grace Mathiason finished with nine points and 10 rebounds. 

The Cheesemakers led Freeport 36-19 at halftime.


Pecatonica 50, Benton 40

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings knocked off the Zephyrs in a nonconference game Feb. 1.

Tessa Green led Pecatonica with 16 points, while Chloe Schraepfer had 12 and Niveah Gross added eight. Jocelyn Cummins led Benton with 14 points.

Pecatonica held a 24-19 advantage at halftime.


Juda 48, Pecatonica 35

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Panthers led by just four at halftime, but outscored the Vikings 34-25 in the second half of their conference game Jan. 30.

Montana Steinmann scored 24 points to lead Juda in scoring, including 17 after halftime. Taylor Golackson added eight points and Maddie Smith had seven. The Panthers led 14-10 at the break.

Gross had 10 points to lead Pecatonica in scoring, while Schraepfer had eight points and Sydney Eaton seven.

The win was Juda’s first of the season in Six Rivers East action.


New Glarus 52, Wisconsin Heights 39

MAZOMANIE — Jaylynn Benson scored 19 points to lead the Glarner Knights to a Capitol South win Jan. 31.

New Glarus led by just three points at halftime and outscored the Vanguards 33-23 in the second half.

Lily Himmelmann and Dylan Noll each scored nine points for New Glarus. Ashlee Adler led Wisconsin Heights with 13 points.


Darlington 59, Boscobel 32

BOSCOBEL — The Redbirds held Boscobel to just eight points in the first half and slammed the door after halftime.

Lizzie Schwartz and Allison Thompson each scored 12 points for Darlington.

Treena Knowles led Boscobel with 12 points.


Brodhead 42, Big Foot 28

BRODHEAD — Abbie Dix scored 24 points as the Cardinals shrugged off first half scoring difficulties to pick up a Rock Valley win Jan. 31.

Kiarra Moe scored nine points for Brodhead, which also got six points from Carisa Purdue.

At halftime, the Cardinals held a tight 11-9 lead.


Argyle 50, Monticello 46, OT

MONTICELLO — It took overtime, but the Orioles were able to hold their second-place spot in the Six Rivers East standings.

Argyle led the Jan. 30 contest by just three at halftime, but the Ponies were able to force the contest into an extra session. 

Tori Lantz led all scorers with 20 points. Orioles teammate McKenzee Granberg had nine points.

Ellie Gustafson led Monticello with 11 points, while Harley Disch finished with 10 points, and Mackie Errthum and Miah Brokopp each added nine.


Albany 69, Barneveld 64, OT

BARNEVELD — The Comets blew a 10-point halftime lead in their Jan. 30 Six Rivers East road game at Barneveld. 

The Eagles rallied with a 34-24 second half to force overtime. In the extra session, the Comets went 8 of 12 from the free throw line to clinch the victory.

Kaiya Zurfluh was Albany’s leading scorer with 17 points, while Brianna Dahl had 15, Payton Wachholz 11 and Jada Flannery 10.
