BELOIT —  Monroe and Beloit Memorial squared off in the championship game of the Thanksgiving Shootout for the third straight year, but unlike the last two, Beloit came out on top, 5-4. To get to the championship, though, Monroe defeated Stoughton 12-2 Nov. 29.

The Cheesemakers scored three goals in the first and second periods then doubled their offensive production for six goals in the third. Neither team was able to capitalize on the penalty though, going a combined 0-for-10 on the power play.

Three players had three points for Monroe — Cam Newcomer and Brady Spotts with hat tricks and Patrick Alt with the playmaker. Hans Brandt and Carter Nemergut had a pair of goals each. Brogan played all 51 minutes in net and stopped 12 of 14 shots on goal for an .857 save percentage.

Gavin Brady’s goal in the third period, assisted by Jayden Piccione, was the difference-maker in the championship game. The score came late in the frame, giving Monroe little time to respond.

The Cheesemakers were able to convert on the power play, as Nemergut and Brody Goode scored on two of five chances.

Goode, Spotts and Brady Stuart had two points each. Brock Brandli played all 51 minutes in net, stopping 40 of 45 shots on goal for an .889 save percentage.
