Cats claim conference accolades

MONROE — The Capitol Conference recently released its all-conference selections for each sport, and runner-up Belleville had five athletes named to the volleyball team.

Maddie DeSmet and Ava Benash were first-team all-conference selections. During the season, Benash recorded her 1,000th career dig. Bree Ranguette and Addison Edge were second-team honorees. During the season, Edge compiled her 1,000th career assist. Kylie Humke was the fifth Wildcat recognized, earning honorable mention. 

Belleville finished league play 8-2, behind champions Marshall. The Wildcats’ season ended in a five-set regional final loss to Brodhead.

Fourth-place New Glarus had three Knights recognized — senior Audry Brueggemann to the second team and sophomores Ellie Brenkman and Kate Parman honorable mention. NG finished league play with a 4-6 record and were swept by ALSA in a regional semifinal game.
