EDGERTON — The eighth-ranked Cardinals scored a huge Rock Valley victory on Jan. 11, defeating Edgerton 41-38.

Brodhead (12-2, 9-0) now has a two-game lead in the conference race, with the Tiders (10-2, 6-2) falling a half-game behind Jefferson and McFarland, which are 7-2 in league play. 

The visiting Cardinals led by nine at halftime, but Edgerton rallied in the second half, only for the Cardinals to pull out the ‘W’ in the end. The two teams don’t meet again until Feb. 17 in the regular season finale.

Kiarra Moe led Brodhead with 14 points, while Abbie Dix added 11. Kate Gunderson led Edgerton with 11 points. 


Pecatonica 70, Juda 43

JUDA — The Vikings rushed out to a 17-point halftime lead and never looked back in their Six Rivers East win Jan. 11.

Lexi Peterson led Pecatonica with 21 points in the game, including 13 in the first half. Tessa Green had 14, Chloe Schraepfer 10 and Anna Tisch eight for the Vikings.

Anna Skoumal led Juda with 14 points, scoring seven in each half. Teammate Jackie Nusbaum added 10.


Albany 60, Barneveld 33

ALBANY — The Comets kept pace in the Six Rivers East, improving to 3-1 in league play and 9-4 overall with a Jan. 11 win over the Eagles.

Albany nearly had four players in double figures. Kaiya Zurfluh led the way with 14, while Brianna Dahl had 11, Alana Durtschi 10 and Gracie Freitag nine.

The Comets led 26-16 at halftime.


Black Hawk 48, Shullsburg 31

SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors won a Six Rivers crossover Jan. 10, going up by 11 at halftime and pulling away over the final 18 minutes.

Tara Wellnitz continued her recent scoring surge, leading all players with 20 points. The Black Hawk junior has averaged 18.8 points per game over the last five contests, and is now averaging 15.2 on the season. She averaged just 5.5 last year as a sophomore. In the win over Shullsburg, she added eight rebounds and two steals.

Shullsburg’s Taylor Russell had 17 points and 10 rebounds. 

Black Hawk led 21-10 after the first half and committed just eight turnovers in the contest, half of the Miners’ total.
