BRODHEAD — The Cardinals played games on back-to-back days against two very different opponents — and the results were just as different.

On Jan. 27, Brodhead lost to East Troy 111-68, and then knocked off Belleville 76-73 the next night.

East Troy (13-1, 10-0 Rock Valley) is ranked second in the state in Division 3 in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association poll. The Trojans had four players in double figures, with three putting up peak performance numbers. AJ Vukovich, who will play at Louisville for baseball in 2021, scored 37 points. Quinten Lottig added 27 points while Ryan Nixon scored 20 and Chase Cummings added 10.

Brodhead (5-9. 2-8) was led in scoring by Connor Green and Cody Malcook, who each had 13. Owen Leifker added 12 points, while Cade Walker had nine on three 3-pointers and Brady Malkow chipped in with eight points. The Cardinals were 11 of 20 from 3-point range.

The Trojans led 64-39 at halftime.

The next night against Belleville, Green scored all 24 of his points in the second half to lead the Cardinals’ come-from-behind charge.

Belleville (7-5) led by 37-36 at halftime, thanks in part to Kody Fahey’s five 3s. Kody Fahey finished the game with 23 points, while Sawyer Fahey had 19 and Brady Duerst added 13 for the Wildcats.

Owen Leifker led Brodhead with 25 points, including 22 in the first half. He hit six 3s, while Green hit five. The Cardinals hit 14 3s in all, compared to just 11 2-point shots.
