Cheesemakers lose opener to Milton, 10-1

BRODHEAD — On April 4, the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals used a 6-run fourth inning to pull away from Monticello-Albany 11-1. The next two days McFarland toppled Brodhead-Juda 9-2 and 7-2.

In the win over the Ponies, Brady Malkow was 3-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored. He also doubled. Gage Bockhop had two doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Aidyn Vondra and Ryan Searles each had a hit and a walk, and Ddddd Mazlowski had two hits and two RBIs. Vondra had two of the Cardinals’ seven steals, with Bockhop adding two steals of his own.

On the mound, Connor Woelky pitched three perfect innings with six strikeouts. Mason Kammerer allowed a run in two innings of work with two Ks and four baserunners allowed. Clayton Elliott struck out two in one inning of work.

For Monticello-Albany, Brayden Bakken and Andy Gertsch had the team’s only hits. Six different players pitched for the Ponies, combining for five strikeouts with 12 hits, four walks and 10 earned runs.

Against McFarland, in Game 1 Malkow went 2-for-2 with a walk. On the mound he gave up four runs (three earned) in three innings. Elliott also allowed four runs (one earned) in two innings, while Kohen Sawle allowed a single earned run in two innings. 

In the second game against McFarland, played on April 6 and pushed up a day due to poor weather forecasts, the Spartans jumped out to a 6-1 lead after two innings and never looked back.

Woelky tossed four innings for Brodhead-Juda, allowing seven runs (two earned). Kammerer tossed the final two innings, holding the Spartans scoreless. At the plate, Malkow was 2-for-3.

Milton 10, Monroe 1

MILTON — The Cheesemakers lost the season opener April 6 in a game postponed a day and destination moved.

Milton scored five runs over the first three innings and costed from there. Monroe’s lone run came in the seventh.

Brevin Rach had two hits for the Cheesemakers, with Nicholas Welty doubling and George Brukwicki and Trevor Schmitt each collecting a hit. Keegan Dahmen walked twice, with Brukwicki, Charles Briggs and Keatin Sweeney also reaching on walks. Chase Stoerp scored the lone run.

Brukwicki started and went four innings for Monroe, allowing five runs (three earned). Stoerp tossed the final three, also allowing five runs (two earned). The Cheesemakers committed five errors.
