SOUTH WAYNE — Black Hawk junior Hannah Butler joined teammate Natalie Leuzinger in the 1,000-point club in a 46-16 win over Barneveld Feb. 9.

Butler came into the game needing seven points and finished with nine. Sophomore sister Bailey Butler had 16 points and seven steals and Leuzinger finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Butler also had 13 boards and seven steals.

Black Hawk led 23-5 at halftime and outscored the Eagles 23-11 in the second half. While the win registered as a 30-point blowout, the Warriors struggled shooting against Barneveld’s staunch defense. Black Hawk was just 18 of 70 (25.7 percent) shooting from the field and 4 of 25 (16 percent) from beyond the arc.

The win clinched sole-possession of the Six Rivers East title for the Warriors.

Brodhead 51, Whitewater 47

BRODHEAD — Kiarra Moe scored 18 points and Alexis Oliver had 16 as the Cardinals picked up a late-season win over Whitewater Feb. 8. 

The Cardinals, which earned a home game in the first round of the playoffs in part because of the win over the Whippets, also received nine points from Carissa Purdue and eight from Madisyn Kail.

New Glarus 59, Wisconsin Heights 39

NEW GLARUS — Sophomore Jaylynn Benson continued her breakout season Feb. 8 with a 28-point performance against the Vanguards.

Benson, averaging over 17 points per game this year, had 10 points in the first half as the Glarner Knights jumped out to a 22-9 halftime lead. Wisconsin Heights hit just two field goals in the first half and were 5 of 8 from the free throw line.

In the second half, the Knights kept the pressure on and Benson went to work attacking the rim, going 12-for-17 from the charity stripe herself in the second half with three field goals.

Lexi Krause scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half for New Glarus, and teammate Morgan Hustad added nine points total. The two teams combined for 69 free throw attempts, with the Knights finishing 25-for-35 and the Vanguards 19-for-34.

Argyle 72, Palmyra-Eagle 37

PALMYRA — The Orioles jumped out to a 25-point lead at halftime and never looked back in a nonconference game Feb. 8.

Jena Saalsaa hit three 3-pointers and finished with 33 points for Argyle, while Kirsten Ostby was 8-for-10 at the line and had 15 points. Freshman Tori Lantz added nine points.

Argyle 61, Pecatonica 21

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Orioles dominated rival Pecatonica in a rescheduled game Feb. 9.

Saalsaa had 19 points and Ostby 13.

Darlington 58, Cuba City 53

CUBA CITY — The Redbirds knocked off Cuba City Feb. 8 to stay within reach of a SWAL title.

Kathleen Mathias scored 14 points and Kaylee Meyers had 12 for Darlington, which led 22-19 at the break and was able to fend off the Cubans in the second half.

Elizabeth Misky led Cuba City with 26 points.

Darlington 74, Fennimore 40

FENNIMORE — The Redbirds picked up another crucial SWAL road win Feb. 9. Darlington led the Eagles 31-16 at halftime and then exploded for 43 points in the second half to pull away.

Mathias scored 22 points to lead the way, while Allison Thompson had nine and Brenna McDonald and Maddie Crist each scored seven.

Brynlee Nelson led Fennimore with 20 points.
