BRODHEAD — Through blustery winds, the Cardinals and Panthers were knotted up early on in their April 6 tilt, with each team struggling to string together hits and baserunners.

In the fourth inning that all changed.

Brianna Dahl singled home Gracie Freitag in the top of the inning to put Juda-Albany on the board, but Brodhead would have the last laugh, scoring nine runs over the next three innings to win 9-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Mckenna Young and Sophia Leitzen led off with back-to-back singles, and on the first pitch she saw, Taetum Hoesly launched a towering fly ball into the trade winds and over the centerfield fence for a 3-run homer.

Two innings later in the fifth, Leitzen and Hoesly drove in two more runs with back-to-back two-out hits, making it 5-1 Brodhead.

Alexis Kammerer and Cora Hafen reached on back-to-back singles to lead off the sixth inning. Young was hit by a pitch with two outs to load the bases, and Leitzen and Hoesly walked in runs before Jaelyn Hilliard finished it off with a two-run single to center.

Leitzen, Hoesly and Hilliard each had two hits for Brodhead, with Hoesly driving in five runs.

Avary Briggs had two hits and a walk from the leadoff spot for Juda-Albany.

Ava Risum struck out 13 for Brodhead, while allowing two walks, six hits and one unearned run. Briggs gave up nine earned runs on 12 hits and three walks while striking out five for Juda-Albany.
