Brodhead sneaks past Whitewater
Monticello knocks off Barneveld in low-scoring Six Rivers East affair

WHITEWATER — Brodhead received a strong performance from Owen Leifker and Connor Green and were able to hold a halftime advantage to pull out a 2-point win over the Whippets Jan. 5.

Leifker finished 11 of 17 from the field with two 3-points for a game-high 25 points. Green was 6 of 11 from the field and a strong 5 of 6 from deep to add 21 points.

Carter Brown had three 3s and 19 points to lead Whitewater, which also got 14 points from both Jake Martin and Peter Zimdars.

The Cardinals led 30-24 at halftime. Brodhead finished with one more 3-pointer and three more free throws than Whitewater. The Cardinals also collected 13 steals and won the turnover battle 14-21. Whitewater led in rebounds, 34-27.


Monticello 36, Barneveld 26

MONTICELLO — Peter Gustafson led the Ponies with 17 points, but it was the grinding defense in the second half that won the Six Rivers East game Jan. 5.

Monticello led 22-15 at halftime, but the two teams combined for just 25 points in the second half. 

Chase Ignatius led the Eagles with 9 points.

In other area action, Black Hawk defeated Albany 72-49 in a Six Rivers East Conference affair.
