MONTICELLO — The Ponies walked off the court in jubilation Nov. 29, having won at the buzzer on a 3-pointer by Katelyn Eyler.

Freshman Dalana Trumpy, Monticello’s leading scorer with 17 points, had fouled out earlier in the game, and Gustafson brought the ball up the length of the court with less than 16 seconds remaining.

“Dalana had fouled out, so I put Ellie at point,” said Lori Brokopp, Monticello coach.

Gustafson got a screen from Karlee Wilkins and dribbled through a double team, but flipped a pass to Eyler on the right wing. Eyler, a senior, set her feet and squared her body before sinking the triple at the horn.

Gustafson finished with nine points, while Eyler had six.

Monticello (3-1), opened Six Rivers East play Dec. 3 at Pecatonica and is at Juda Dec. 9.

Juda led 28-22, and closed out the second half despite struggling from the free throw line. The Panthers were just 4-for-19 from the charity stripe in the contest, including 3-for-13 in the second half.

Juda was slated to host Johnson Creek Dec. 2, then play at Barneveld the next night and at Faith Christian Dec. 7. The Panthers return home Dec. 9 against Monticello.
