BRODHEAD — Following a five-set match against Turner to open their season, the Cardinals won their own 10-team tournament on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Brodhead went 3-1 in pool play — falling to Mineral Point 25-19, 25-14 — to advance to the gold bracket. The top three teams in each pool qualified for the gold bracket, while the bottom two teams played in the silver bracket.

In the first round of bracket play, Brodhead defeated Monticello 25-19, 25-16. The Cardinals once again met up with Turner, who was the top team in Pool B and received a bye. Brodhead learned from Thursday’s match, besting Turner in two sets 25-22, 25-20. The championship match pinned Brodhead against Mineral Point, where the Cardinals took revenge for the win, 26-16, 13-25, 15-11.

Albany, who was 2-2 in pool play, won the silver bracket by defeating Juda and Monroe.
