BRODHEAD — The Cardinals had 17 all-conference picks for this year’s Southwest Wisconsin Conference football season, plus four of the six individual honors.
Cardinals running back Gage Boegli was the league’s offensive player of the year, while teammate Colton Buttke was the offensive lineman of the year. Richland Center’s Konner Ellenson was the defensive player of the year, and Platteville’s Devin Digman was the defensive lineman of the year. Head coach of the year went to Brodhead-Juda’s Jim Matthys, while assistant coach of the year went to Brodhead-Juda’s Dave Knuth.
Boegli led the league in rushing on the season with 949 yards and 16 touchdowns in seven conference games, he was also a first-team pick on defense. The unbeaten Cardinals had four players named first-team all-conference on offense, and six on the defensive side of the ball. Three more players were second-team offensive picks, while just one was a second team selection. Three others were honorable mention picks.
New Glarus-Monticello’s Dain Walter was a first-team pick on offense and second team on the defensive line. The Glarner Knights had six other all-conference selections.
Brodhead-Juda went 7-0 to win the league title. Richland Center (5-2) was second, followed by Prairie du Chien and River Valley at 4-3 each. Platteville finished 3-4, with NG-Monticello 2-5 and Dodgeville winless at 0-7.
