WHITEWATER — The Cardinals allowed an unearned run in the first inning and then exploded offensively to beat the Whippets 13-1 in a Rock Valley contest May 4.

Brodhead scored five runs in the second inning. With two runners on, Sophia Leitzen singled to center to score Alexis Kammerer and Natalie Bump. After Taetum Hoesly walked, McKenna Young smacked a hard liner to left field, scoring both runners with a double, then advanced to third on the throw home. A pitch later, Young scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-1.

Brodhead would go on to score three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and four more in the sixth to grab the mercy-rule victory.

Leitzen was 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBIs. Young and Daisy Nelson each had two hits, while Kammerer had three hits. Young, Nelson and Madisyn Kail each doubled for Brodhead. The Cardinals had 13 hits and four walks in the game while striking out just four times.

Young tossed five innings on the mound, allowing just one hit while striking out 12 batters. Kail pitched the sixth inning, leaving two baserunners stranded.


Argyle 5, Barneveld 3

BARNEVELD — A late charge brought the Orioles back from three runs down to walking off the field winners May 4 against the Eagles in a Six Rivers East conference affair.

Barneveld led 3-0 after the third inning, and Argyle didn’t scratch its first run across the board until the fifth. Grace Ganshert tripled in the top of the sixth inning and scored with two outs on a steal of second by Megan Johnson.

In the seventh, trailing 3-2 with bases loaded, Ganshert cleared the bases with her second triple. 

Ganshert had 10 strikeouts on the mound. She allowed three earned runs on three hits and four walks.


Pecatonica 3, Monticello-New Glarus 2

MONTICELLO — Chloe Schraepfer recorded 16 of 21 outs via the strikeout for Pecatonica, allowing two hits, three walks and two unearned runs as the Vikings scored a Six Rivers East win May 4.

The Ponies took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, but the Vikings tied it in the fifth. In the top of the sixth, Pecatonica scored two runs to take a 3-2 lead, but the Ponies made it interesting with another run in the bottom of the frame.

Lily Busser, Trinity Gruenenfelder and Amanda Chrostowski each had two hits for Pecatonica. Nivaeh Gross and Tessa Green each doubled. 

Katelyn Eyler had a double for MNG, which also got a hit from Bri McCoy. Harley Disch pitched all seven innings for MNG, allowing 10 hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Two runs were earned.
