SOUTH WAYNE — Black Hawk’s unbeaten run to a state championship fared well for postseason honors. Juniors Natalie Leuzinger and Hannah Butler, as well as sophomore Bailey Butler, were named all-state by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association March 11.
All three were also first-team Six Rivers East selections, with Bailey Butler and Leuzinger sharing the conference player of the year award.
Leuzinger averaged 18.3 points per game on the season, while Bailey Butler was at 17.5 ppg and Hannah Butler 14.8 ppg.
Joining the Warriors on the conference first-team were Argyle’s Jena Saalsaa (17.1 ppg) and Monticello’s Alyssen Noriega (15.6 ppg).
Second-team all-conference honors went to Albany’s Brianna Dahl and Libby Beck, Argyle’s Kirsten Ostby, Juda’s Montana Steinmann and Barneveld’s Leah Marx.
Argyle had three players honorable mention — Alysabeth Lantz, Tori Lantz, Jadyn Saalsaa. Pecatonica freshman Tessa Green was honorable mention, as was Monticello senior Abby Wicker, Albany senior Payton Zurfluh, Barneveld’s Elizabeth Oimoen and Black Hawk’s Maddy Huschitt and Kaylee Marty.
Black Hawk won the conference title with a 12-0 record, while Argyle (10-2) was second, Albany (7-5) third and Monticello (6-6) fourth. Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan was named coach of the year.
SWAL girls all-conference
DARLINGTON — Seniors Kaylee Meyers and Kathleen Mathias close out their prep careers with first-team all-conference selections. Meyers was second in the SWAL with a 15.9 ppg average, while Meyers was at 13.4 ppg.
Darlington senior Bethany McDonald (4.7 ppg) was named to the SWAL honorable mention team.
The Redbirds finished one game behind conference champion Mineral Point in the standings. The Pointers had four all-conference nods.
Capitol South girls all-conference
NEW GLARUS — Sophomore Jaylynn Benson was a first-team all-conference selection for the Knights, while senior teammate Lexi Krause was a second-team honoree.
Benson finished fourth in the league in scoring with a 16.8 ppg mark, while Krause was 10th at 9.5 ppg. Marshall sophomore’s Mia Morel (16.9 ppg) and Anna Lutz (18.8 ppg) were named co-players of the year in the league, each garnishing all-state honors by the WBCA as well. Belleville’s Rachael Heittola (17.4 ppg) was a first-team selection and was named honorable mention all-state by the WBCA.
Marshall won the conference by two games over Belleville, and then won the WIAA Division 3 state title for the second year in a row in the process. New Glarus finished tied with Waterloo for third in the league standings.
