CUBA CITY — Second-ranked Darlington remains undefeated after a 58-53 win over rival Cuba City Jan. 24.

Stryker Fitzsimons led the Redbirds with 21 points, while Matthew Douglas added 11.

Darlington (14-0, 8-0 SWAL) holds a two-game lead in the league standings ahead of Fennimore (13-2, 6-2) and Mineral Point (9-5, 6-2). The Eagles knocked off the Miners the same day. Cuba City falls to 9-6 overall and 5-4 in the standings.

The Redbirds were scheduled to face Riverdale Jan. 29, with Fennimore due up Feb. 1. Darlington’s Jan. 18 postponement against Mineral Point has been moved to Feb. 18.


New Glarus 100, Waterloo 61

WATERLOO — Sophomore forward Mason Martinson scored 24 points on 11 field goals as the Glarner Knights tipped the century mark for the first time this season.

New Glarus (14-2, 5-0 Capitol South) led 50-28 at halftime and dropped another Roman Numeral L in the second half, leading Waterloo (1-14, 0-4) to a massive Sports Language L.

Darris Schuett has 18 for the Knights, while Jaden Kreklow (13) and Garrett James (10) also reached double figures.

Jefferson 74, 

Brodhead 56

JEFFERSON — Dawson Van Whye scored 21 points and Cade Walker added 18 for the Cardinals, but the host Eagles were too much to handle.

Jefferson led 35-26 at halftime and then outscored Brodhead by nine points in the second half to cruise to the Rock Valley W. The Cardinals hit seven 3-pointers in the game and were 11 of 12 from the free throw line.

Belmont 73, Juda 69, 4OT

JUDA — Belmont’s Ethan James hit a pair of free throws with .1 seconds left in the second overtime to keep the Six Rivers Crossover game alive.

The two cellar dwellers in the conference gave the crowd its money’s worth all night. Belmont’s Luke Kamps sent the game into its first overtime with a 3 at the buzzer. Kamps eventually fouled out in the third overtime, but Belmont sophomore Mitch Douglas hit a layup and a free throw in the fourth OT to give the Braves the lead. Brady Wedig closed the game out by hitting free throws down the stretch.

Dominic Taylor had a game for the ages for the host Panthers, scoring a game-high 36 points. Gavin Kammerer scored 12 and teammate Dogukan Yetgin added 11 for Juda, which hit nine 3s as a team and went 16 of 26 from the free throw line.

Belmont hit 11 3s and was 20 of 31 from the charity stripe. 

The Braves led 29-16 at halftime, but a big second half by the Panthers pushed it into overtime tied at 52. The score was tied at 57 after the first overtime, 63 after the second and 66 after the third.


Dodgeville 56, Monticello 45

DODGEVILLE — The Ponies had their Jan. 28 game moved up two days with the impending snowstorm on the way, but still fell to the Dodgers in a nonconference affair.

Monticello trailed 26-22 at halftime, but Dodgeville pulled away in the second half thanks to the efforts of Adam Phillips, who led all scorers with 28 points.

Peter Gustafson paced the Ponies with 19, while Reece Rufer added 13.


Black Hawk 69, Benton 56

SOUTH WAYNE — Benton led 26-25 at halftime, but the Warriors came back in the second half, outscoring the Zephyrs 44-30 en route to the Six Rivers Crossover victory Jan. 25.

Kyle Lovelace scored a game-high 20 points for Black Hawk. Conner Meyer (18), Colby Argall (11) and Rece Shelton (11) also reached double figures for the Warriors, which hit nine 3s in the contest as a collective unit.

Benton had three players in double figures — Wyatt Bastian (14), Nick Jansen (13) and Brooks Tiedman (18).


Shullsburg 43, Pecatonica 40

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Miners outscored the Vikings 30-19 down the stretch to pick up a win in the Six Rivers Crossover Jan. 25. Pecatonica led 21-13 at halftime.

Colton Schraepfer led Pecatonica with 14 points. The Vikings hit six 3s as a team but had just seven 2-point baskets and were a woeful 8 of 17 from the charity stripe.


Argyle 48, Highland 34

ARGYLE — The Orioles downed the Cardinals in a Six Rivers Crossover Jan. 25.

Argyle led 19-9 at the end of the first quarter and held on in the second half. Highland’s Derek Miller had 17 points.


Albany 65, River Ridge 60

ALBANY — The Comets scored a big win in the Six Rivers Crossover Challenge Jan. 25.

Corbin Kelly hit four 3-pointers on his way to 29 points. Teammate Josh Dahl had 19 points with two 3s, and Albany hit a collective nine shots from beyond the arc.

The Comets trailed 29-26 at halftime, as River Ridge hit five of its 14 3s in the game. But Albany didn’t allow River Ridge to reach the free throw line in the second half, while the Comets went 14-for-22 from the charity stripe in the final 18 minutes.


Albany 56, Abundant Life-St. Ambrose 36

ALBANY — The Comets led 29-16 and cruised in the second half of their second nonconference win in two days Jan. 26.

Dahl finished with a team-high 16 points while Jamison Stauffacher had 10 and Kelley nine. Albany hit five 3s in the game and held Abundant Life to just three free throw attempts, all by Mike Rhatican, who led all scorers with 18 points.
