MONROE — Megan Benzschawel and Grace Tostrud were named first-team all-conference in the Badger South this season for the Cheesemakers.
Oregon’s Liz Uhl was named the league’s player of the year and was one of two unanimous selections, with Watertown’s Teya Maas the other.
Other players making up the first-team included Edgewood’s Baluck Deang and Sarah Lazar, Milton’s Abbie Campion, Monona Grove’s Peighton Nelson, Oregon’s Kaitlyn Schrimpf and Stoughton’s Ava Loftus.
Monroe senior Grace Mathiason was named honorable mention, the only other Cheesemaker earning postseason honors.
Benzschawel led the league in scoring at 17.3 points per game and was third in rebounds at 8.2 per game. Tostrud was fifth in scoring (12.7 ppg) and first in rebounding (9.9 rpg).
Oregon was the conference champion and reached the state tournament. Watertown finished second and Edgewood was third.
Rock Valley girls all-conference
Brodhead freshman post player Abbie Dix was named to the first-team all-conference this season, leading the league in rebounds and finishing fourth in scoring. Dix averaged 14.6 points per game and 12.3 rebounds — the only player in the RVC to average a double-double each night.
Paige Banks of Evansville was the conference player of the year, finishing second in scoring (18.4 ppg) and leading her team to the conference championship with a four-game cushion.
Brodhead sophomore Kiarra Moe was a second-team all-conference pick, while fellow sophomore Onnikah Oliver and senior guard Carisa Purdue were given honorable mention nods.
Rock Valley boys all-conference
Brodhead junior Connor Green and sophomore Owen Leifker were named honorable-mention all-conference in the Rock Valley for their efforts this season. They were the only Cardinals honored.
East Troy’s AJ Vukovich was named the league’s player of the year after averaging 27.9 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. East Troy won the league title.
First team picks included Vukovich and Quinten Lottig of East Troy; Beloit Turner’s Jordan Majeed and Dee Strong; Edgerton’s Brian Rusch and Clayton Jenny; and Jefferson’s James Monogue.
Six Rivers East boys all-conference
The Six Rivers East released its boys all-conference team, with unbeaten league champion Monticello scoring high praises.
The Ponies had four players named all-conference, as well as the co-players of the year. Coach Mark Olson won coach of the year.
Senior forward Reece Rufer and junior guard Peter Gustafson of Monticello were both first-team all-conference picks and were named co-players of the year. Gustafson led the league in scoring at 20.7 points per game, while Rufer was second with 18.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Senior guard Simon Blohowiak was a second-team pick, and senior Devin Holtz was honorable mention.
Pecatonica’s Bo Hendrickson, Black Hawk’s Jaylen Rufenacht and Barneveld’s Seth Sullivan, all seniors, were named first-team all-conference.
The second team consisted of Blohowiak, Argyle’s Gavin Johnson, Juda’s Gavin Kammerer, Pecatonica’s Hunter Enloe and Barneveld’s Chase Ignatius. Enloe and Ignatius are sophomores, with the other three seniors.
Honorable mention picks included Albany’s Clay Hulbert and Jevon Ferguson; Argyle’s Connor Carius, Payton Flannery and Clay Ritschard; Barneveld’s Spencer Sullivan and Jack Thompson; and Black Hawk’s Lucas Flanagan, Clayton Stietz and Avery Baumgartner.
WBCA all-stars announced
Six local players were named to the annual Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association all-star game, set for this summer.
Monroe’s Grace Tostrud was named to the girls Division 2 team. In Division 4, Darlington’s Allison Thompson and Brenna McDonald earned their nod, while Black Hawk’s Hannah Butler and Natalie Leuzinger made the Division 5 team.
On the boys side, Monticello’s Reece Rufer was picked in Division 5.
