CAMBRIDGE — The Glarner Knights picked up a pair of wins last week against Cambridge and Fall River. On Jan. 21, New Glarus beat Cambridge 60-46, and two days later ousted Fall River 61-28.

“Playing on the road and being our second round of conference games is something we haven’t done much this year,” girls coach Kevin Parman said. “It was nice for this team to come out and control the game with tough ‘D’ and run the floor together.”

The Knights led Cambridge 31-22 at halftime, then outscored the home team by five in the second half to seal the Capitol South win. In the nonconference affair against Fall River, New Glarus jumped out to a 30-10 halftime lead and cruised after the break.

“Saturday afternoon games look a lot different than they used to,” Parman said. “I was happy our focus wasn’t effected. We came out applying pressure and looking for each other in transition early, opening up a big lead and never looking back.”

Leading the way on the court for the Knights was senior guard Jaylynn Benson, who had 24 points against Cambridge and 21 at Fall River. She is a semifinalist for the Wisconsin Sports Network’s Senior Point Guard Award.

“Jaylynn Benson reached another great milestone in her career and in the history books, becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer,” Parman said. “What an amazing accomplishment for Jaylynn and all of her past and present teammates and coaches. I’m very proud of the player and the leader she is.”

Lindsey Schadewalt had 13 points against Cambridge and 17 in the win over Fall River. Alex Atwell had 9 against Cambridge, and Emma Marty finished with 11 at Fall River.

Madisyn Kail led Brodhead with 15 points, while sophomore Abbie Dix, who went into the week in the top-20 in the state averaging, finished with just four points.
