BLANCHARDVILLE — The Orioles rallied from a two-game deficit to win a five-set thriller over rival Pecatonica Sept. 28, 20-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-18, 17-15.
Maggie Godfrey threw down 23 spikes for points for Argyle, along with serving up two aces and recording 20 digs. Grace Ganshert had 11 kills, four aces and 45 digs. Breann Flannery added two aces and 13 digs, while Megan Johnson dished out 44 assists.
Lexi Peterson tallied 15 kills, eight blocks and three aces for Pecatonica. Tessa Green added 11 kills, four aces, four digs and 13 assists. Chloe Schraepfer also had 13 assists and notched four kills and seven digs. Nivaeh Gross chipped in with five aces and six digs, and Gracie Gordon added four digs.
“Tough loss for us tonight,” said Tori Leonard, Pecatonica co-coach. We were competitive and we got away from playing our game.”
Leonard also said it was “some of the best ball we have played all year,” despite the loss. Pecatonica falls to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the Six Rivers East.
Monticello 3, Black Hawk 0
MONTICELLO — The Ponies cruised to a 25-11, 25-10, 25-18 win over the Warriors Sept. 28, keeping their stranglehold on the top spot in the Six Rivers East standings.
Ellie Gustafson finished the night with 15 kills, seven digs and four aces for Monticello, which remains unblemished in league play this fall. Kelsy Grant dished out 23 assists while also collecting two blocks and four kills. Macy Grant added four kills. Hannah Clark notched four kills and five digs, and Jaden Zuber chipped in with four aces.
For Black Hawk, Raylin Peterson had three kills, while Tara Wellnitz finished with four digs and three blocks. Ellie Edler also had four digs and added three assists. Mackenzie Quinn had the Warriors’ only ace.
Brodhead 3, East Troy 0
EAST TROY — The ninth-ranked Cardinals improved to 25-5 on the season, and 6-0 in the Rock Valley, with a dominating 25-7, 25-16, 25-18 win over the Trojans Sept. 26.
The Cardinals scored points on 10 aces, 30 kills and seven blocks. Kaidynce Bevars continued to impress from the service line, never missing a hit and scoring four aces. Alexis Kammerer, Madisyn Kail and Onni Oliver each had two aces for the Cardinals, which missed seven serves as a whole.
Abbie Dix tallied 14 kills and seven blocks for Brodhead. Kammerer added 28 assists and five digs. Bevars led the team with 13 digs, while Daisey Nelson was second with 10.
Brodhead (No. 9 in D3) and McFarland (25-1, No. 4 in D2) sit atop the conference standings at 5-0 each. The two are slated to meet in the regular season conference finale Oct. 12 at McFarland, with the winner likely bringing home the league crown.
Wis. Heights 3, Belleville 3
BELLEVILLE — The Wildcats took the opening set, but awoke a sleeping giant in the process. The Vanguards rallied to a 19-25, 25-13, 25-21, 25-11 victory over Belleville Sept. 28 in a Capitol South matchup.
Alyssa Caskey had 14 kills to lead Belleville, with Callie Smith adding 10 kills, nine digs and a pair of aces. Mikayla Caskey had two aces herself, while Kailey Prochaska finished the match with two blocks. Addy Edge dished out 16 assists, while Kenna Edge tallied 10. Mel Humke finished the night with eight digs.
Kylee Doherty had 28 kills for Heights, with Olivia Buol adding four aces and Daryn Schaefer 36 assists.
With the loss, Belleville falls to 11-7 overall and 3-5 in league play.
In other area action, Darlington defeated Fennimore in four sets.
