ORANGEVILLE — Argyle went 2-1 at the Orangeville Tournament April 5-6.

The Orioles lost to Wheaton St. Francis 10-0 April 5 in the opener. Grace Ganshert took the loss on the mound, allowing nine runs — just two earned — in five innings while striking out four. She gave up 12 hits and two walks. Natalie Romdenne pitched two innings in relief, allowing an unearned run with no hits and no walks.

Argyle had nine errors in the game.

St. Francis, ranked No. 8 in Illinois, shut down Argyle’s offense entirely. The perfect game on the mound was split between two pitchers who struck out 15 of the 21 Orioles that trekked to the plate. St. Francis would go unbeaten in the tournament, not allowing a run all weekend and winning each game by Mercy Rule.

In Argyle’s second game of the tournament, the Orioles defeated Benton-Scales Mound 14-4 in five innings. Kirsten Ostby was 2 for 4 at the plate with a home run, a double and six RBIs.

Romdenne pitched two innings on the mound, striking out three and allowing four runs — one earned — on four hits. Ganshert closed out the win, striking out eight in three no-hit innings.

In the final game of the tournament, Argyle beat Lena-Winslow 7-1. Ganshert went 2 for 4 at the top of the lineup, while Ostby was 3 for 4 with three runs in the three-hole. Tori Lantz was 2 for 3 with a solo home run.

Ganshert got the win on the mound, striking out 12 and allowing just two hits in the complete game victory.
