Area schools partake indoors at UW-Platteville

PLATTEVILLE — The first day of spring meant several area track and field boys and girls teams competing at the UW-Platteville High School Invitational at Williams Fieldhouse on Thursday March 20. 

In the boys 200 meter dash, sophomore Charley Spiegel of Sugar River took second place in 25.66 seconds. Junior Shane Wand of Black Hawk was third in 25.83.

In the boys 400 meter dash, freshman Dax Paquin was seventh with a time of 1:01.76. Freshman Brady Baer of Sugar finished in 10th place in 1:03.64. The boys 800 meter run saw senior Ayden Wilkins of Monticello get eighth place with a time of 2:34.03. Five area athletes placed in the top ten in the boys 1600 meter run. Senior Ayden Wilkins was fourth in 5:29.48. Junior Kaleb Broughton of Albany was sixth in 5:33.57, sophomore Carson Biermeier of Sugar River was seventh in 5:34.81, freshman Brooks Wachholz of Albany finished ninth in 5:44.29, and freshman Kamden Broughton of Albany came in tenth place in 5:44.90.

The boys 4x200 meter relay resulted in Black Hawk’s relay team of senior James Holland, junior Spencer Hay Skattum, junior Ty Kobbervig, and senior Shane Wand finishing in fourth place with a time of 1:47.92. Sugar River’s relay team of freshman Kaden Dammen, freshman Taydon De Rouin, freshman Ethan Kaetterhenry, and sophomore Cameron Pawloski captured seventh place in 1:49.55. The 200 meter relay team from Albany of junior Beckett Wachholz, junior Kamron Parker, sophomore Casey Cole, and junior Zach Hughes took eighth place in 1:51.30. The Albany Comets earned fourth place in the boys 4x400 meter relay as freshman Brooks Wachholz, junior Beckett Wachholz, sophomore Casey Cole, and junior Zach Hughes raced to a time of 4:08.30.

Sugar River’s 4x800 meter relay boys team got an eighth place finish behind sophomore Carson Biermeier, freshman Johnny Mac Boomer, freshman Landon Marty, and Senior Max Marty in 11:47.42

The boys high jump featured junior Zach Hughes of Albany getting sixth place and freshman Dax Paquin taking tenth place. The boys pole vault saw Brayden Schmitt of Sugar River win fifth place. In the boys long jump, senior Alex Roe of Monticello took first pace with a jump of 19 feet, three inches. Junior Kamron Parker of Albany was second with a jump of 18 feet, seven inches. The boys triple jump had senior Alex Roe of Monticello winning the event with a jump of 37 feet, six inches. Junior Kamron Parker of Albany was third with a jump of 35 feet, 10.5 inches. Senior Caleb Smith of Albany won the boys shot put with a throw of 49 feet, 7.75 inches. James Holland of Black Hawk was fifth with a throw of 42 feet, four inches.


Girls Results

In the 55-meter dash, Sugar River’s Marie Besley took first place with a time of 9.53 seconds, just ahead of Black Hawk’s Emily Curran (9.67).

Maddy Place and Mya Milz of Black Hawk finished fourth and fifth in the 200-meter dash at 29.39 and 29.98 seconds. Place was fourth in the 400 (1:07.01)

Monticello’s Kennadee Johnson was third in the 800 (2:51.91),and Olivia Fox of Sugar River was fourth in the 1,600 (6:28.21). Ella Salas of Monticello was second in the 3,200 (17:05.54)

Black Hawk’s group of Molly Edler, Emily Curran, Place and Milz won the 4x200 relay) 2:00.19) by just under 3/10s of a second. Sugar River (Besley, Vivian Lancaster, Tess Hedeman and Reese Montgomery) finished fourth at 2:05.24.

In the 4x800 relay, Milz, Edler, Jaci Kammes and Payton Stietz (11:45.32) took first place. Albany’s Lydia Ahnen, Emma Thompson, Brynn Smith and Tatum Doescher (12:43.65) were fifth.

Johnson was second in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches. Thompson was third in the long jump (14-feet). Lillyana Morales of Albany was second in the shot put (28-07.25).
