EVANSVILLE — The WIAA wrestling sectionals get underway Feb. 22, with prep grapplers attempting to reach the state tournament.
Evansville High School is hosting one of the four Division 2 meets. Monroe, Darlington-Black Hawk, Brodhead-Juda and Sugar River will all have wrestlers competing. Pecatonica-Argyle will compete at the Westby Division 3 Sectional.
At 106 pounds, Monroe freshman Jack Dubach (32-8) will face sophomore Chase Beckett (39-2) of Portage in the first round. Further up the bracket, Brodhead-Juda sophomore Jacob Lohmar (18-20) will take on Wisconsin Dells junior Will Van Dinter (21-4).
Monroe sophomore Garret Voegeli (31-10) will face Edgerton’s Ryen Hazzard (35-6) in the opening round at 113-pounds.
In the 126-pound weight class, Monroe sophomore Brady Schuh (19-8) will face Lodi’s Dean Finney (12-13).
Joe Quaglia (34-6), a two-time state finalist from Sugar River will face Evansville’s Matt Kostroun (32-6) in the first round at 132.
At 152 pounds, Sugar River senior Robert Chenoweth (31-10) faces off against Beloit Turner’s Tre’veon Bivens, while Darlington-Black Hawk sophomore Owen Huschitt (23-11) will face Whitewater’s Carter Friend (33-8).
Senior Patrick Rielly (27-8) will represent Monroe at 160 pounds in a match against Richland Center’s Jaren Hill (19-9). Teammate Alex Witt (38-5) will wrestle at 182 against Edgerton’s Dominic Hogan (24-12).
Brodhead-Juda sophomore Cole Hoesly (24-16) faces Mauston junior Roman Martinez (19-5) at 170.
Darlington-Black Hawk has two wrestling in the upper weights. Senior Carson Lobdell (25-9) gets Viroqua senior Paul Nickelotti (35-7) in the first round at 195, and at 220, senior Bailey Schilling (22-5) will face Columbus senior James Roche (30-3).
At the D3 Westby sectional, Pecatonica-Argyle junior Noah Krahenbuhl (36-5) will face sophomore Jack Gauger (7-13) of La Crosse Aquinas in the 126-pound weight class. At 138, Pec-Argyle sophomore Kristian Orloff (29-10) faces New Lisbon senior Jacob Rogers (36-4).
The 77th annual WIAA Individual Wrestling Championship Tournament will be Feb. 27-29 at the Kohl Center in Madison. Tickets are available online or can be purchased at the door each day.
