Area athletes give it their all at state meet
state track 2025

LA CROSSE — The 2025 WIAA State Track and Field Championships took place Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 at Veterans Memorial Stadium at UW-La Crosse. In Division 2, there were 14 events that featured local athletes. In Division 3, there were five events that showcased athletes from the area.

In Division 2 girls, senior Stella Arn of Brodhead-Juda placed third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.21 seconds. Freshman Vivian Lancaster of Sugar River also competed in the 100 meter dash and finished in 14th place with a time of 12.99 seconds. Arn also placed high in the 200 meter dash, taking sixth place in 25.21 seconds.

The Division 2 girls 4x800 meter relay saw Monroe’s relay team of junior Aniya Jackson-Bey, junior Mya Wild, freshman Alivia Moser, and junior Miley Hanson take 14th place in 9:49.91. In Division 3 girls, junior Adalee Berget of Darlington claimed eighth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.82. Darlington also brought its 4x800 meter relay team to State and finished in 11th place where the relay team of sophomore Madison Welacha, sophomore Brianna Vazquez, junior Clara Solverson, and Adalee Berget finished the event in 10:07.12. 

The boys portion of the State Championships in Division 2 featured senior Erik Woodward of Brodhead-Juda with a ninth-place finish in the 100 meter dash in 11.07 seconds. Brodhead-Juda’s Mavrik Plummer, a junior, was the highest finisher of all area athletes as he came in second place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.09 seconds. The 1600 meter run was the setting for junior Tre Dammen of Monroe to take seventh place as he completed the run in 4:21.83. Division 2 relay teams did very well as Monroe’s 4x400 meter team of junior Frank Wolf, sophomore Lukas Gerber, junior Noah Spotts, and junior Jy’Shon Broitzman finished in ninth place in 3:28.48. The Brodhead-Juda Cardinals relay team of Erik Woodward, junior Jorge Villalva, junior Nolan Bump, and Mavrik Plummer was 10th in 3:29.81.

Monroe also got a ninth place finish from its 4x800 meter relay team with Gerber, sophomore Elijah Cook, Tre Dammen, and sophomore Kamrin Gerber-Reamer getting across the finish line in 8:03.55. Senior Seth Schmidt of Monroe took 12th place in the triple jump with a jump of 41 feet, .50 inches.  The boys pole vault saw junior Simon Moore get 11th place as he sailed over the bar at 12 feet, six inches. The final results in the shot put had sophomore Brent Weeden of Sugar River taking seventh place with a throw of 54 feet, 1.25 inches.

Senior Jonah Wortman of Sugar River competed in four wheelchair events in Division 2. He took seventh place in the 100 meter dash in 26.32 seconds, sixth place in the 400 meter dash in 1:42.60, fifth place in the 800 meter run in 3:47.97, and 11th place in the shot put with a throw of 12 feet, 1.50 inches. 

Division 3 boys was a showcase of athletes competing in two events. In the 4x800 meter relay, Argyle-Pecatonica’s team of senior Garrett Phillipson, junior Eli Harris, freshman Ayden Slater, junior Grant Kuberski, senior Braelyn Meinert, and sophomore Alex Fernandez finished in 15th place and completed the relay in 8:28.74. The shot put gave senior Caleb Smith of Albany a chance to score points for the Comets and he did just that, getting seventh place with a shot put of 51 feet, 6.5 inches.

In Division 2, Freedom won the girls title with 40 points. Brodhead-Juda was 20th with 11 points. In Division 2 boys, Green Bay Notre Dame took first place with 44 points. Brodhead-Juda tied for 47th place with four points, Sugar River and Monroe tied for 55th place with two points.

The Division 3 girls title was won by Cochrane-Fountain City with 44 points. Darlington tied for 56th place with two points. Marathon won the Division 3 boys championship with 48.5 points. Albany tied for 51st place with two points.

In the wheelchair competition, Sugar River placed seventh with nine points.
