Alana Durtschi cuts down the net after an undefeated conference season.

ALBANY — With a 12-0 conference record and its first program trip to state, Albany’s starting five received Six Rivers East All-Conference accolades, led by junior Alana Durtschi as Player of the Year and Derik Doescher as Coach of the Year.

Durtschi averaged 14.6 ppg, which was second on the team and fifth in conference. She shot 74% from the free throw line and 42% from beyond the arc. Her five assists per game paced the Comets and put her second in conference. She averaged 6.8 rpg, which was second on the team.

Sophomore Abby Hollis was the other First-Team All-Conference selection. She averaged 17.1 ppg, which was second in conference. Because Albany made state as a team, Hollis did not participate in the WIAA 3-point challenge. However, she made 91 of her 182 3-point attempts for a .500 3-point percentage, which led all of Division 5. This also set a new single season school record, surpassing Payton Wachholz with 40 makes.

Avary Briggs and Gracie Freitag were named to the second team. Freitag was the third Comet to average double figures with 11.6 ppg and led the team with 6.9 rpg. Briggs, who averaged 8.8 ppg, shot .481 from 3-point range, making 26 of 54 attempts. Senior McKenna Broughton received honorable mention recognition.

In his seven years as the girls head coach, Doescher has compiled a 115-38 record. Since Doescher has taken over the program, Albany has won two conference titles. He has coached two Conference Players of the Year in Durtschi and Brianna Dahl and has won Coach of the Year twice before.

Other First-Team All-Conference selections include Izzy Durst (Barneveld), Raylin Peterson (Black Hawk) and Chloe Schraepfer (Pecatonica).

The Warriors finished third in conference with a 6-6 record, and Peterson led them in scoring (11.9 ppg), free-throw percentage (.567) and assists (2.5 apg). For the 6-6 Vikings, Schraepfer averaged 17.1 ppg, which also led the conference. In a conference game against Juda, she joined the 1,000-point club.

Ellie Gustafson and Dalana Trumpy led the 6-6 Ponies as Second-Team All-Conference selections. The pair were third and fourth in conference scoring with 16.4 and 14.9 ppg, respectively. Gustafson also led the conference with 11.4 rebounds, averaging a double-double.

Jaylin Hartwig and Hannah Gierhart were the two conference selections for the 1-11 Orioles, receiving honorable mention accolades. Hartwig was the team’s leading scorer with 10.7 ppg, while Gierhart — the team’s only senior — averaged 7.5 ppg and 7.3 rpg.
