Argyle-Black Hawk Gets Season Opening Win In Last At-Bat

Argyle-Black Hawk opened their softball season with a 6-5 win over Belleville in extra innings in a non-conference game on Monday March 31 at South Wayne. Argyle-Black Hawk took an early 4-1 lead after two innings, only to see Belleville grab a 5-4 lead by scoring four runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Orioles tied it at 5-5 with a run in the bottom of the fifth and won it with a walk-off run in the bottom of the ninth. Senior starting pitcher Mya McNett got the win by going all nine innings and giving up just two earned runs on five hits. McNett struck out 12 and walked five. At the plate, McNett went 1x4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Senior shortstop Maddy Lange got a base hit, scored two runs and drove in a run for the Orioles. Argyle-Black Hawk overcame seven errors to claim the win. Catcher Story Fossum got two hits in four at-bats for Belleville. Fossum came on in relief of senior pitcher Ava Benash in the fifth inning and took the loss. Belleville hosted Dodgeville on Tuesday April 1. Argyle-Black Hawk traveled to Darlington on Tuesday April 1. 


Orioles Rout Redbirds in Softball

The Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles scored in every inning and shut out the Darlington Redbirds, 14-0 in five innings in non-conference softball Tuesday at Sieg Field in Darlington. The Orioles got 13 hits as senior 2nd baseman Sara Helfvogt went 3x4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Senior shortstop Maddy Lange was 3x3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Junior 1st baseman Sam Kammes got two hits and scored two runs while driving in three runs for Argyle-Black Hawk. In the pitching circle, senior Mya McNett pitched a shutout, going all five innings, allowing just two hits, two walks and struck out five. The Redbirds’ only hits came from junior Sydney Wiegel and senior Maddy Corley. Darlington (0-3) will open SWAL Conference play Thurs. April 3 when they host Mineral Point. Argyle-Black Hawk (2-0) will participate in the Orangeville Tournament with games on Friday and Saturday.


Darlington Softball Falls To 0-2 With Loss to Lancaster

The Darlington Redbirds fell to 0-2 to start the softball season after a 14-3 loss to the Lancaster Flying Arrows on Monday March 31 at Lancaster in five innings in non-conference action. The Redbirds took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Lancaster scored in every inning after that to win the shortened game on the 10-run rule. Senior shortstop Lylah Norgard scored two runs and went 1x2 at the plate for Darlington. Junior 2nd baseman Kylie Crist went 1x2 and drove in two runs for the Redbirds. Senior pitcher Ella Winslow walked, got a base hit, and scored a run for the Redbirds. Darlington hosted Argyle/Black Hawk in non-conference action on Tuesday April 1 at Sieg Field. 


Brodhead Takes 9-5 Win Over Whitewater In Softball

The Brodhead Cardinals have run their record to 2-0 after topping the Whitewater Whippets 9-5 in non-conference softball Tuesday at Whitewater. Senior starting pitcher Ava Risum went all seven innings, allowing just one hit, no walks, and struck out 17. The Cardinals had a balanced attack led by freshman 3rd baseman Mady Henning, who went 2x4 with two RBIs. Freshman rightfielder Natalie Pierce also went 2x4 with two stolen bases, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Risum helped herself out at the plate with a pair of RBIs. Whitewater dropped to 0-2 with the loss. The Cardinals hosted Delavan-Darien of the Rock Valley Conference Valley Division on Thursday April 3 at Brodhead.


Pecatonica Drops To 0-3 In Softball With 6-1 loss To Platteville

The Pecatonica Vikings fell to 0-3 in softball following a 6-1 loss in five innings to Platteville in a non-conference game on Tuesday April 1 at Platteville. The Vikings were handcuffed by Platteville starting pitcher Kennedy Shea, who allowed just three base hits. Junior Brooklyn Johnsrud, sophomore Katie Jorenby, and senior Mikaela Gross got the only base hits for the Vikings, with Johnsrud getting a double and Jorenby getting a triple. Senior starting pitcher Diana Hendrickson took the loss for Pecatonica, going all five innings. Hendrickson gave up 12 hits, six runs, one walk, and struck out four. Pecatonica (0-3) will begin Six Rivers Conference action Monday April 7 at Potosi-Cassville in Cassville.
