MONROE — Despite temperatures higher than 90 degrees, the 2nd Annual Toby Golembiewski “Win the Day” Memorial flag football tournament attracted a large contingent of Cheesemaker football fans on Saturday, June 21 at Monroe High School.

Along with the flag football tournament, a silent auction was held where those in attendance could bid on Milwaukee Brewers tickets, Green Bay Packers tickets, a Wisconsin Badgers helmet signed by TJ Watt, a gift card and speaker donated by the Swiss Colony, and two handcrafted lawn chairs with leg rests with “Win the Day” inscribed on them, donated by the Monroe High school woodshop.

The money raised support Monroe High School scholarships in Toby Golembiewski’s name to honor the Monroe football coach who passed away from cancer in June 2024.

“The community has done a great job of supporting us since last summer and they continue to do so and we’re hoping to build this scholarship fund as much as we possibly can to keep giving back to the community through Toby’s name,” said Max Golembiewski, Toby’s son and event coordinator.

With Toby Golembiewski’s parents Kathleen and Jerry looking on, the flag football tournament featured six teams competing for a $250 cash prize. The teams were; No Punt Intended, Team Briggs, YFL All-Stars, Trailer Park Boys, Yoder’s Bathwater, and the Wolfpack. Austin Fuchs, who played for the Cheesemakers, designed the tournament format with the six teams competing in pool play, establishing a four-team bracket ending with a championship game. Yoder’s Bathwater was the team that won the championship and the $250 cash prize.

Last year’s inaugural flag football tournament raised over $27,000. A total for this year’s fundraiser has yet to be determined because the silent auction runs through noon on Wednesday, June 25.
