MONONA - The four events the Monroe High School girls track team competed in at the Monona Grove Invitational all came out golden Friday.

The Cheesemakers won all four events they entered at the Monona Grove Invitational and scored 40 points, finishing last out of five teams. Waunakee won the meet with 216 points. Monona Grove finished second (184).

The Cheesemakers' 1,600-meter relay team of senior Josie Eberle, sophomore Cammi Ganshert, junior Rachel Meier and senior Jordan Hirsbrunner set a meet record by winning the race with a time of 4 minutes, 4.1 seconds. It's also the top time in the state in Division 2 in the 1,600 relay, according to the Wisconsin Honor Roll.

"We wanted to practice our relays," Monroe coach Matt Davis said. "Our girls ran really good. We divided the team, and six girls came to this meet and the others went to the Delavan-Darien invite so we could get more people involved. The plan today was to work on the relays."

Eberle teamed with freshman Cassi Gersbach, senior Casey Rielly and Ganshert to win the 400 relay in 50.62 seconds.

"It's the fourth fastest time in the history of Monroe," Davis said.

Hirsbrunner cleared 5 feet, 5 inches to win the high jump and tied her personal-best jump.

"It's nice to know Jordan still has it in her," Davis said. "That really is a big mark going into the postseason."

Eberle won the pole vault (9-6).

At the Borg Invitational in Delavan, the Monroe girls placed fifth with 87.5 points out of eight teams. Lakeside Lutheran racked up 168.5 points to win the invitational ahead of runner-up Westosha Central (143).

The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay team of senior Allyce Fahrney, senior Claire Hughes, Elise Smith took third (10:58.76).

Monroe senior Alicia Kuester took second in the triple jump (32-91⁄2) and fourth in the long jump (14-33⁄4). Freshman Chloe Bunker finished third in the shot put (28-41⁄2). Senior Sydney Schultz placed fourth in the discus (86-8).
