NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus softball team was in the midst of a third inning that had already produced 10 runs against Pecatonica in a nonconference game Thursday when the hail hit.

With the Glarner Knights leading 16-3 in the bottom of the third inning, the game was delayed due to lightning before hail wiped it out.

New Glarus first-year coach Myken Daeda said the game was suspended. The remainder of the game will be rescheduled for a day to be determined.

"It started lightning, and we were just going to wait it out and then it started hailing," Pecatonica coach Chuck Meyer said. "We didn't get a chance to talk about what day we will play it."

Pecatonica jumped out to an early lead in its season opener by scoring two runs in the first inning. The Knights answered with a five-run bottom of the first.

After scoring another run in the second to take a 6-2 lead, the Knights broke the game open in the third.

"Ninah McKeon was pitching and she was having a hard time getting the ball in the zone," Meyer said. "We really struggled in the field behind her. It was passed balls, walks and errors."

Next up for New Glarus is a home game Tuesday against Evansville.

Pecatonia is scheduled to travel to Riverdale for a game Thursday.

Edgerton 6, Black Hawk 0

EDGERTON - Edgerton senior Kellan Schmidt was a thorn in the side of Black Hawk going 4-for-4 to power the Crimson Tide to a nonconference win over the Warriors.

Edgerton scored two runs in the first and tacked on one run in both the second and third to take a 4-0 lead.

The Crimson Tide limited the Warriors to just six hits. Black Hawk senior Jordyn Delzer went 2-for-3 with a double.

Black Hawk freshman Hannah Butler, who picked up her first career win Tuesday against New Glarus, pitched six innings and gave up five earned runs on 10 hits. She struck out seven and walked two.

Black Hawk (1-1) will play Monroe at Twining Park on Monday in the Cheesemakers' season opener.
