Leuzinger named player of year in Six Rivers East, all-state

MONROE - Black Hawk freshman Natalie Leuzinger earned a healthy list of postseason honors recently.

She was named Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 5 first-team all-state, first-team Six Rivers East All-Conference and the conference's player of the year.

Leuzinger averaged 18 points, five rebounds and 2.6 steals per game this season before injuring her hip in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal game. The Warriors' season came to an end in a 67-62 overtime loss to Fall River in the regional championship game.

Black Hawk freshman Hannah Butler also received first-team all-conference honors.

The other first-team all-conference selections were Juda senior Chelsea Burkhalter, Argyle sophomore Jena Saalsaa and Barneveld senior Teegan Pickarts.

Black Hawk Mike Flanagan was named the conference's coach of the year after leading the Warriors to a 21-1 record and the Six River East championship.

Black Hawk sophomore Hannah Herbst was named second-team all-conference. The other second-team picks were Argyle sophomore Alysbaeth Lanz, Barneveld senior Abigail Sutter, Barneveld junior Courtney Skaife and Albany sophomore Libby Beck.

Juda had two players named honorable mention all-conference - seniors Alexis Goecks and Sara Jordan. The other honorable mention all-conference sections were Albany sophomore Payton Zurfluh, Pecatonica senior Jessica Erickson, Argyle senior Morgan Godfrey, Barneveld senior Mia Whitish, Barneveld junior Jessica Walker and Black Hawk senior Sammy Lovelace.
